Default AC always on by itself

so,, my AC is always on, but the AC button light isn't on though.

what to check?

this started to happen since the last time, when I was trying to install the headunit, and somehow, it it stuck inside while i was trying to pull it out, i pulled so hard, and one of the electric wire behind the HVAC control got ripped, it didn't come off, but the wire skin was off, so I use electrical tape to tape it back. I think most likely that I messed up the wire right behind the AC switch or I killed the AC switch??

this is killing my mileage by 30miles less per tank.. now i just drive without any air venting a bit window down...

.. Just to be sure, you aren't using the windshield defroster, are you? It automatically runs the A/C.

Yes in defrost mode the compressor will always run, and the AC light will not illuminate.

you actually do want it running... it serves 2 purposes, it keeps the compressor lubed and and also defrosts your windows. (warm moist air does a great job of fogging up windows when you really want to defrost them!)

but yes, it is fairly easy to disable, there is a micro switch you have to move in the controls.

+1, you want dry air to remove fog from your windscreen.
