Default Info for people with problems with their hella horns

Well Ive had my hella horns on my car for about 9 months now, and friday they just all of a sudden stopped working. I checked all the normal stuff first, fuses, relays, everything seemed fine. Today i finally had a chance to head out there with a multimeter and start checking stuff. The black box that they provide for you to hook everything up ended up being bad. Dont know excactly what was wrong with it, but i was trying to find people with the same problem on here, and after searching i read i few threads with people that seemed to be having the same problem, soo just a little info for people that may run into this problem.

All i did was plug both of the connectors that were plugged into the original horns into the hellas and then ran the ground, both work great now. Idk just figured id let people know

That's exactly what I did with mine too, the second part. I just skipped on the relay box and everything. They've been running strong for about a year now. Good to see I'm not the only person that has them hooked up this way.

what is the black box they provide you? a relay?

if so, the inexpensive relays that come with 12v car accessories are absolute junk. my dad had a fire in his engine compartment with a properly wired, fused aftermarket fog light system. the relay just shorted itself and caught fire

long story short, only use bosch relays

The ones that come with hella supertones are hella relays, which should be pretty high in quality. I used a bosch one because the hella ones are smaller and I needed them for another project. But my friend used the hella relay for wiring up his supertones. I swear it sounds like mine are louder than his (both have the German ones), the only difference is the relay, lol.
