Default First post n00b

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. My names Ruben, Ive been driving my 2012 wrx for months and I'm inlove! As the title states I'm a amateur to cars.Did some research on the forums(manafesto) and also read many controversial opinions on upgrades and recommended first mods. I've decided to get an cobb accessport first and begin my project any local tuners in South NJ and also was wondering any opinions on what tune recommended for daily driving and cruising / power. (Excuse my ignorance)

For tuners, check out the Tri-State forum. It's your local/regional forum and will have more info about specific shops in the area.

What tune? Whatever tune matches the modifications you have on the vehicle. If you don't have any mods, don't load a Stage 2 map. If you have stage 2 mods, don't load a Stage 1 map. Pretty simple stuff. Just read the map notes.

In fact, just read the map notes. That will answer all your questions about what tune is recommended to run.

A few spelling corrections for you:
in love
Manifesto
Rubin

That is all.

welcome, and just make sure you read all the stickies first. Then search. As far as locals in your area, find the appropriate local section in one of the sub forums.

Talking Welcome...nubie too!

Welcome! I'm a nubie too. Not only am I a nube but I'm the worst kind...I just bought a 2014 Impreza with the CVT. Why did I do this? 1) well...I'm married and my wife is manual transmission-challenged (I will make learning stick a requirement on our next car though...gotta stand firm at some point right?) and 2) there were NO 2014 manuals on the lot...like ZERO. Anyway, the CVT is smooth but I get the sense that this forum is for the hard core WRX and STI owners. Nonetheless, I'll learn a few things for sure and maybe when the kids are off to college or on their own I can get that stick shift WRX! haha Except for a few annoying things for the most part I'm loving my subaru impreza! Looking to get a snowboard rack on the roof next!

I went to the same undergrad college as Loyale93. They teach us to always correct incorrect grammar, spelling and usage.

Nice! I love the white pearl color! I wanted that color actually but the dealership didn't have it in the trim level I want.

I own a CVT 13 Crosstrek Limited.

Although it isn't a manual, it is far nicer than KC's or Loyale93's manual Crosstreks. Heated leather is quite nice, thank you very much.

congrats on the purchase! defintly need to get a stick! put that foot down. and i recently got the yakima rack with the control towers/round bars, and the fatcack 6. i highlysuggest the fatcat! littel expensive but totally worth it. has a hinge on the far side so when you put your board against the far side it will still close!! and has a built in angler so your bindings wont hit the roof

Thanks for the suggestions BReehill! I did come across the yakima unit, very nice. I like the angled carriers for the same reason...keeps bindings off the roof AND they look pretty cool. I see many of them in Vermont. Actually, it seems to me that every second or third car in Vermont is a Subaru. haha! Last month I was driving through southern Vermont in my old car (FWD 04 Sonata) in a snow storm. I had to take it REAL slow...but all these Vermonters were blowing by me in Subarus! I figured an entire state can't be wrong so that's what got me into the Impreza.

For the most part the CVT is actually quite nice. The only thing I dislike is that when you back out of a driveway in reverse and then shift to drive, there is a slight delay in the engagement. I don't notice this delay in stick shifts and torque converter autos. I know there's a whole other thread somewhere devoted to this topic however.

After a tough day on the slopes or terrain park, I bet it IS quite nice! haha! I could have used it last month...boarding for hours on end in 7 degree weather. Multiple failed attempts at air and resulting soreness. I think my next one will have the heated seats. My wife wants a Subie now too.

Thanks...heard good things about Killington actually!. I don't know if I'll make it up that way this season though. My "home mountain" for now is Stratton. Decent for boarders and only about a 90 min drive for me. I have a feeling that the AWD will prove to be an invaluable capability on that trip though. I enjoy sliding around on snow...on my board that is. Subaru's AWD will help ensure that I don't do it on the road.

^yes the AWD and winter tires are amazing.

its a long story so i included a "short" summary

Long:There is a HUGE hill you have to go up to get to the condo. We left for dinner are it was snowing, there were 2 cars stuck on the hill (its normal for cars to be stuck on that hill) it snowed a lot we got 7in so aout 3 hours latter on our way home from dinner there was probabky about 4in on the gorund and i decided to take my luck at the hill figured get a good start + awd +winter tires id make it (the cars that were stuck were a f150 and a honda accord neither have awd and im assuming the accord didnt have winter tires it was jersey plates) well i got up all the way perfectly fine then came to where the two cars were stuck and there was a 3rd car stuck (a bmw x5) and a HUGE snow truck/tractor trying to pull the f150 out of the ditch, well its a tight road so i couldnt fit so i reversed down and had to park in another lot over night.
2 hours later seeing a tow truck towing the snow truck/trailer/ towing the f150... great sight

Short:
the AWD + Winter tires= No match for snow covered roads
