Does anyone know of a cheap CD or MP3 player that fits directly into the stock cassette radio?
I am looking for something that is $150 or less. Thanks, Chris |

You won't find ANY mp3 car players for less that $200 as far as I know. And the low end ones are crap anyway. You can get regular CD players for $150 without a problem. What I would do if I were you is just get a single-din (subaru stock radio is double-din) and buy a plate to put over the open hole. Or better yet, do what I saw someone on here do, put 3 guages in that din opening. Or you can get a tray-like conversion for the second din, where you can put sunglasses and stuff.
You can buy double-din CD players, but I doubt for $150. They are for GMC cars mostly that have the double-din height deck. Check crutchfield and go through the "what fits my car" thing. CB |

I think mine is a single. Below the radio there is a place where I can put stuff into.
The picture below is what it looks like but I have the stock radio installed. |

I heard that there was some MP3/CD deck at Wal-Mart for under $100. Somehow, I kinda doubt if it was any good though... You should check out the forums at highwaymp3.com for more information about MP3 decks.

i dont want to burst your bubble, but there is no mp3 player worth getting under 250, some low level RF stuff, some jenson and lower level kenwoods.....
id get either the pioneer 740MP for around 270 or the jvc-sh99 for around the same price |

I would probably either get the Blaupunkt San Jose or the Rockford Fosgate RFX9300. The Blaupunkt plays WMA files but has a non dimmable backlight that is supposed to be WAY to bright at night. The Rockford Fosgate doesn't have any problems except that I don't think that it reads ID3 tags, and doesn't play WMA files.

I was just wondering if there was anything that could get close to that price for MP3 players. If there isn't anything low enough I think I'll just go ahead and get a cd player.

one cheapo solution not yet mentioned is getting a portable .mp3 player like a phillips or something with a car kit since you have tape player in your car. something like 80 bucks and i think they play id3 tags too. not the best solution, but it's cheap and you can take it out esasily to avoid theft... (shrug) it's a thought.

I've seen the AIWA MP3-CDC for sale for $220-$240. I got it when it first came out, it was one of the first car cd-mp3 players on the market. It has been in 2 cars and well mistreated and still plays mp3s like a champ.

getting a really cheap mp3 player isnt a good idea...
the best low end model is the kenwood KDC-MP8017. i think is 270 msrp, which means you can get it for around 200... |

I bought and recently installed an Aiwa CDC-MP32 unit which is the 2nd gen unit that plays mp3 CDs. Its a pretty nice unit although i have found limitations. I paid about $230 for sale at Crutchfield and the things i like about it is ID3 tag support up to 30 characters which the more expensive Sony X-plod unit does not support, and has a front aux jack for plugging in other portable players (i have 2, see the 8 ohm jack dangling in front of the stereo
)which the Kenwood units do not.heres some pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() Ideally i'd have like bought the JVC KD-SH99 mp3/CD deck cause it has all of the above and more and looks great, but I couldn't bring myself to spend $400. Ed |
