I was looking at getting a wrecked WRX from the US imported into Canada. Any ideas on the taxes associated with it? GST, duty, tariffs?
(reposting this into Vancouver forum also.. I have to know this ASAP)

I imported an Isuzu truck last year.
You must pay duty, which is 7% and PST which is 8%. Depending on your province of course. There are no other tariffs. But you need to have it inspected at Canadian Tire to pass a NATIONAL safety test (must have daytime running lights, etc.). As well as passing your provincial emissions and safety test. Good luck... it wasn't that much of a headache, but it wasn't cheap either. Casey |

But the original question was what are the duty percentages? So if I buy a car thats $15,000 CDN, what will the duty be like? It's a fixed percentage right? What did you pay for duty when you imported your truck?

Just a word of caution: when I imported my car I had to make sure the original title or a notarized copy was at the US border 72 hours prior to the importation. PITA! I suggest you get the seller to mail the original title a week before you go get the car. Send it by courrier or registered mail so it doesn't get lost.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Now I just have to find a car to buy hehehe...
Also, you have to check with RIV to make sure your car is allowed to enter also.. (which all 2002 subarus are) |
