I can hear the noise coming from turbo (I think). It gets really loud sometimes. I can hear on acc or dec going about 50m/h in firfth gear. It whines up and down. I want your commens please. Is this a normal noise ? It is loud enough for any passenger to notice (my wife) Is it just the nature of the turbo sound and I have to live with it? Can you all hear your turbo whining up and down? Thanks

Whining sound is normal if it sounds smooth. The problem that I have is that in my case it sounds like thrashing something inside the turbo which is definitely not normal. This is why I am going to take it for a check next week.

My turbo does not sound smooth at all. I whines sometimes loud and sometimes not too loud. I will have it check as soon as I can. Please let me know what is going on with your turbo. Thanks

yo Peng,
you will have some fluttering, or sometimes a whistling noise coming from the turbo...that's normal. if you are unsure, just drop by a dealer and take a tech for a ride. the first time I took my wife for a test drive, she said "what the hell is that noise!"....it was just the turbo making a low drone off boost at about 40mph in 4th...it's normal. Hay Matt
Thanks for infor. This Friday I will take it to the dealer. I took it down there (Long Beach Subaru Southern California) once but the tech guy said it normal. It sounds too loud to be normal. I don't think the guy is hornest with me or may be I am crazy. I will try a different dealer this time. Does anybody have any experence with Irvine Subaru in Lakeforest? How is the service there? if they aren't being helpful you should ask to ride in another new WRX that is on the lot to make sure they aren't feeding you a load of bull...hopefully everything will be fine.

It's definitely normal-it's what gives the exotics their distinctive high pitch scream.........Did you know that a turbo/super charger is pretty much half of a turbine jet engine. It's going to be loud...

Hmmm, very interesting. My Mitsubishi TD06 turbo doesn't make that much noise, not even at 20 psi of boost. When I'm under boost, all I hear is my exhaust.

this 'noise' you're all saying you hear from the turbo...i hear a noise too, but something tells me i'm hearing something different from what you're describing. i hear a scraping noise when i take my foot off the gas pedal. this happens in all gears and essentially sounds like metal scraping against metal. it's really hard to describe, but i'm hoping the 'scraping' description will trigger someone else knowing what i'm talking about. i've taken it in to the dealer several times and they keep telling me they hear it when i take them for a ride, but then when i leave the car with them, they tell me they can't 'duplicate' the problem. what the hell is wrong with my REX????? am i alone in this?????
