Default 19t Compressor Wheel Upgrade

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but after a morning of searching, I haven't found anything helpful. I was thinking of picking up a cheap used td04 and sending it into Blouch for the 19t compressor wheel upgrade. My question is, what are the advantages to the upgrade? Will the turbo flow a significantly greater amount of air over the 13t? Is this a waste of money or a worthwhile "Stage 2.5" step? I'm looking for good daily driving performance, but I don't want to just throw in a turbo that makes so much torque that I have to worry about the tranny when I start mashing on it. I'm assuming the compressor wheel doesn't do much for the TD04's paltry high-RPM performance. Anyone done this or have any other input? I'd move up to 16g/vf34/vf39 if I could afford it, but it's not feasible this year.

Edit: Of course I would be getting tuned for this. Most likely at Speed Industry in Troy. I can't imagine I'd need injectors or an intercooler otherwise I'd just move up to a 16g/18g or vf30/34/39/43

Thanks in advance,
-Pat

1. Torque is only one of the factors that kills trannys, so don't worry so much. If you want to know what kills trannys, read the Transmission FAQ.

You WILL need injectors and fuel pump with a 19T upgrade, so don't think it's cheap. It is a good upgrade, but no one knows exactly how much as its pretty rare of an upgrade. Would be great for daily driving, but in the end, a 16G/30/39/43/48 might be options to look at with a slight lean towards 16G/EVO III 16G or Super 16G from Deadbolt.

Thanks Unabomber. Are you still running the stock turbo or did you upgrade yet? When I was searching this morning, a lot of people referenced that you were running around 250whp (on whatever dyno it was.) I've read through The Manifesto probably a dozen times especially the Transmission FAQ. It's an awesome write-up.

So you think I should just wait on a 16g? Would I feel the difference between the big 16g and the EVO III?

If anyone else has anything to add feel free to chime in.

There are 2 16G flavors, regular and big. The difference isn't too great, but if you have the extra money, the EVO III is THE 2.0L turbo from what all the kids are saying. I'm getting a Super16G from Deadbolt myself...it's actually a touch bigger than an EVO III by like 2 lb/min. So my stock turbo will be going bye-bye soon.

And yeah....Deadbolt can put a 16G wheel in a stocker. I thought about it as well, but when you do the cost comparison, I preferred the "real" thing.
