Default Passenger side window switch

My passenger side window switch is starting to go as it will go down but not up on my 2002 WRX.

I was wondering if any market had auto down on this switch?

You can get aftermarket modules (DEI) to add auto function, but as for the switch itself you can only get OEM. Dealer or junkyard.
Check the vendor section, and contact our vendors who are Subaru parts depts. and will sell you OEM parts at a discount.
For info on adding modules, look in the Car Stereo and Security forum.

are you sure it is a problem with the switch and not with the window sticking on the track?

I have the exact same problem with my rear passenger window. Will go down, but not up with the normal switch. From the driver side I can do both. What all needs to be replaced? I assumed it was something more difficult than simply replacing the switch.

I've fixed this problem before on an 89 volvo 240 and a 92 Accord, but I didn't think it was possible in a newer car, until my 02 wagon started doing the same thing with the front passenger side window. I'll post an faq with pics once I get around to doing it. It's fairly simple if you have the tools and manage to not lose any of the small pieces.

One thing, make sure it's not the connector or the wiring going from the switch.

my Volvo had that problem... bad contact in the switch...

I replaced the switch... (after trying to clean it multiple times... would only make the problem better for a little while).

eventually contacts in the switch do go bad. if the window is working from the driver side then it's definitely not anything more than just the switch.

Default Replacement Part Number

This happened to me too. I got the replacement switch, which is called the "Switch, Power Window" and has Subaru Part Number 83071FE040. At subaruparts.com it was $19.

I pulled apart the old one just for the heck of it. It is two copper terminals that rock on ball bearings to press down on round terminals. Both of the round terminals are flattened and blackened. Not sure there would be a way to fix it unless you ripped out the round terminals and re-soldered some new ones on there. Chances of not losing springs and small parts is pretty slim though, so $19 ain't bad to get it fixed.

I'm wondering why the one that went bad on me was the rear passenger. Seems like the front drivers side would be the first to go. BTW this was for a 2002 WRX that was bought in April of 2001 and has 125,000 Miles on it.

Good info on this thread, I think i'll buy my 19$ switch now so I don't have to control the window for my wife anymore. Just another way to Liberate.
