Default What's with people not wanting to get passed?

Yesterday and today I did a lot of driving on 2-lane roads that had a fair bit of passing zones and low traffic. I think I made 6 or 7 passes on the roads. For 4 of the passes, the guy I was passing sped up in an attempt to prevent me from passing. They all happened to be pickup trucks, so my LGT was much faster and had no problems completing the pass. I wasn't tailgating at all. The worst one was when I was passing 2 cars at once, a BMW 325 and an older F150. They were doing 50 in a 55. As soon as I moved into the opposing lane, the F150 in front floored it. I ended up hitting triple digits to complete the pass. Why do people have to make a routine traffic function more dangerous because of their ego?

Oh, and another thing: why do some people go 5 under the speed limit when there's a double yellow, and then they do 10 over when there's a passing zone? This really annoys me.

Ah yes. Some dudes think that they are supposed to regulate traffic by not allowing one to make a pass.

It's only stupid when the person passing the ones impeding traffic, end up breaking the law to do so. Triple digits? Your ass would've gone to jail had a cop hit you with radar.

yah dude....i herrr ya!! it's weird. you hit one of those passing zones (2 lanes) and all the sudden it's freeway speeds. generally when people pass me i just let em go. i drive about 60 in a 55 on the way to work and get passed all the time. i don't care much. still is weird though when they speed up when they weren't going that fast to begin with though. damn kids.

I've been wondering that for 4 years

Almost everyone I pass who is in the passing or middle lane, regardless of how insanely under the speed limit they're going will floor it to 10+ over to pass me again.

I prevent people from passing me when I'm already speeding.

I also brake check them after.

I have two manuevers to conter-act such situations.

When they pull up next to me...

A) Stare at them furiously, don't take your eyes off of them until they make eye contact. Throw in a stern, steady finger point for good measure. Show no emotion during the whole event. They will wonder "what the **** is wrong with this guy?", and slowly back off.

B) Pull in front of them again. Straddle the dotted line.

This more than just annoys me. It gives me instant road rage. I have been in these situations many times.

How about the guy that you catch and pass with ease, who then speeds up and tails you down the highway - using you as a radar detector?!

Happened to me the other week - passed the guy - he tailed me - I slowed - he slowed - I sped up - he sped up, etc. etc. for almost 30 minutes. I then brake checked him hard - after that he was gone.

Really?
When someone is tail gating you - bad - and you feel like being a weenie.
Get in front of them - and stand on the brakes.
Just make sure you are paying attention and are ready to jump on the gas again. Also make sure there is no one behind the 'victim'.

I like to clean my windshield when I'm being tailgated. That usually riles them up.

Where (what geographic region) was this?

I've gotten the impression the drivers in some regions are more prone to that garbage.

I've never had it happen in California. I counted 11 two-lane highway passes I made on 1 trip back to the east bay from the Sierra. I think they were all of people who's average speed was below the speed limit.

On my last Sierra trip I distinctly saw one of the cars I was passing tap the brakes to make it easier for me to get around.
