Default 03 legacy and 05 baja developing rust already!

both my vehicles have developed rust underneath the paint which has started to bubble. both are on the roof of the car. the 03 legacy's rust spot is larger than the 05 baja's.

the baja has 42k miles and the legacy has 66k. i am dissapointed with the rust. is this normal for subaru cars? i knew their paint was cheap and thin but did not expect to see rust developing so soon underneath the paint. there is rust that developed from road chips (on the hood, for example) but that is understandable.

we purchased both cars new. we do not have a garage so they have lived their life outside but this reminds me of the poor 80's domestic cars like fords and gm's that started to rust in 3 years.

on a side note i want to add that both cars never gave serious mechanical issues and never failed to start and drive. i wish the community put a more emphasis that subaru cars tend to become rust-buckets in 3 years. i directed my mother to purchase a new tribeca and am hoping the paint and body on those cars are better than the rest of subaru's lineup.

Wow, that's interesting.
My 97 spent most of its 191k+ life up north and doesn't have a single spot of rust on it.

That's really, really odd...
