Default Want to buy Reposes car before it hits Auction. Need Info on how to find owner!

Not really sure where to post thisÖ

So my buddy owns a car shop and right next door is a lot where they store repo cars. I came by for lunch and to my surprise I find an immaculate 05 Blue STi! I assume the owner couldnít pay for it; it got reposed and is waiting to be auctioned. The tags and inspection are several mouths over due. I wrote down the tags and VIN. Does anyone know where I can get some info on the owner or the bank? I was told you canít just go to the DMV anymore and just request the info, so you must be a dealer or have access to police data base. I want to figure out where itís getting auctioned or who is taking ownership, but my only option is to wait for the truck drive to come and pick up the car.

Mike

You really don't have a whole lot of hope. Even if you found out the bank that owned the car, unless you were willing to pay them what the outstanding loan balance is, they are required to take fair market value for the car - which really means it has to be auctioned. Some places send cars off to the dealer auctions, others do it themselves, but it's still auctioned.

Legal rules involving repossession - same goes for foreclosures on real estate.

damn,

My friend said they have to leave the keys in the car so when the repo guy comes back to pick it up he can take it easily...but I wouldn’t be surprised if the car just disappeared soon...

the banks are willing to take a loss some times just to get rid of it...I got my car 3000 dollars cheaper then what was outstanding on the loan. You just have to find the bank and talk to them. In ca the are required to get bids from 3 other buyers and the highest one gets it.
