Default New Rims - What to get....

Alright, I want some opinions NASIOC!

I am getting some new rims for my 04 WRX and I want to know on which size I should get. I'm going with a 6 spoke design like SSR Comps, 5Zigen ProRacers, or Gram Light 57Maximums. I'm leaning towards the Pro Racers. I am either getting:

1) 18x8.5 with 245/40-18's

2) 17x8.5 with 245/45-17's

The 17's will help with ride comfort, resistance to pot holes, and be lighter; While the 18's just look so DAMN good! I need help. I have 18x7.5 FNO1R-c's with 235/40-18's right now, and I love the way they look but I have had to replace 3 wheels and tires so far due to atlanta pot holes denting my rims. Plus I would like to upgrade to a wider rim for more traction (and obviously some new summer rubber)

All opinions are appreciated.

consider weight difference between 17 and 18 inch wheels (think acceleration and mpg vs marginally better looks). If you find 17" wheels that you like then get them, they will look good and give you somewhat better performance and value for your money.

HMMMM.... in your case since New Jersey has the worst pot hole out of any where I would go for 17s for pot hole resistance and get some beefy tires . Or if your going for looks just get 18s and Learn to drive slow and dodge pot holes.

17x8.5 and 245/40/17, not 245/45.

Thanks for the opinions. I would love to get some SSR comps but it's hard to find them with 17x8.5 in silver. Any help?
