Default Ummm WTF? Hella + Radar = ... Laser?

So I installed my hellas today, kinda rushing cause I was late getting somewhere (in someone elses car). So i just got back and took my car out for a ride. I knew the Hellas already worked so I wasnt worried about that but low and behold the second I hit my horn, I hear not only my hellas but the loud abnoxious sound of laser warning from my Escort 8500X50. I tried it ten more times. there is no doubt that my hellas are making my radar scream laser.

Sitting here now I am thinking.. Do I need a new radar? or should I go back to stock horns. The only other thing I can come up with is that I used a piggy back fuse (a thing that plugs into an existing fuse in the fuse box and you put two fuses in it, 1 for the thing already there and one for the thing your installing) for my radar in the horn slot in my fusebox and somehow the drop in voltage is fuxing up my radar... I havent looked at the owners manual or the box itself yet (I just came up with this theory) but I know my radar is tapped off a fuse in my behind coins fuse box. ne way. ne one got ideas besides my own? Ill go check that one now.

Possibly a grounding issue with the Supertones? Try to get some more sheilding on the wires of the Hellas and try it again...

went out and checked. the radar is either on the rear wipers or the 12 V adapter/mirror (my gauges taking one or the other of those slots)

so its not that.

I was doing a quick install so I didnt put the hella relay in yet but I am planning on it. I really dont think that should effect it though. Has this happened to anyone else?

what i would try is an inexpensive 12v isolator (i think thats what they are called)

its a small box that plugs inline with the 12v power input. connect your detector to the isolator, then your isolator to your tapped power source.

these are used in stereo/other electronic installs where the engine rmps make a slight whine. it may work for your radar detector too.
