Default 99 Legacy L: Keyless Entry?

Heres the deal:

My little sister just got a '99 Legacy L Sedan. In my 03 WRX if the BEEP for the alarm is activated, when you lock all the doors from within and shut the last door the car beeps once.

Her car didn't come with any fobs, but it does the same thing. Lock all the doors from the inside and shut the last door and the horn beeps once. Does it have keyless entry?

Thanks in advance.

Ezra

Likely just the alarm.

To find if it does have keyless entry: step out of the car, lock it, lift the handle once, wait for the beep, and repeat 3 more times. After the 4th time you lift the handle, it will beep 3 or 4 times. that's keyless entry. anything else is the alarm.

Does it have central locking too? I assume yes.

Sounds like just the alarm.

I installed keyless without the alarm, and mine does not beep. If you leave a door open and try and lock it, it wails.

Dealer wanted $300 for something I did in 20 minutes. Even came with instructions.... :-)

There is a module right under the drivers side dash that I can get a pic of when my wife brings the car back.

Here is a pic of the keyless entry module. This car does not have an alarm, I can't remember if they were built in to one module.

I do know that this replaced the power lock module that was in this location.

(Pictured under the dash, just to the left of the brake pedal)

<WRONG PIC SORRY>

Hope this helps.

Thanks a TON! I will go look for that. Where did you get that Keyless module from and for how much? I've got to wait for my sister to get home so I can go look at her car and see if she has it.

That doesn't look like the keyless entry module for the BD/BK series cars... they used the same module as the 00-01 Impreza RS. Black box.

Huffer is right - I just went back out and looked - it is a black box. It says 'Keyless Entry' on the side.

I can't take a good pic of it because it is up in there. I remember 2 nuts to get it out.

Forgive me - I had put it in in 1999, so my memory is obviously not all there.

So, under the dash, halfway between brake pedal and the side of the car, look straight up. The black box has writing FACING the driver, not the engine, closer to the plastic fascia. There is a small opening to see up in there.

If you are still stuck, I will try to get a pic tomorrow - my back is killing me right now from doing the brakes on the wife's Sienna. (That is why she had my car)

P.S. I want to say it was like $120 (?) for the kit. Included the module and 2 fobs.

related (how too) guides are model specific but should apply to USDM BD/BD's+

BC/BF's dont require key-fob input
