Default Is it the car or the tires????

I just picked up a 05 STI and it is riding on Falken Azenis. The road noise is killing me. It is so loud that I cannot even carry on a conversation on the cell (with bluetooth headset).

I am coming from a 02 WRX wagon on crappy Cooper tires and it is much quieter.

Are Falken's just a plain noisy tire?

The Falken RT615's are REALLY LOUD tires. I don't think there is much of any type of insulation changes between your 02 & the 05 so my guess would be that the tires are probably the culprit, but without actually riding in the car I really couldn't say for sure.

I can't say anything about the Falkens, but my '04 STi has NO insulation/padding under the thin blue carpet. It's not a quiet car.

Its most likely the tires, any performance tire is going to bring along more road noise with it.
