I bought a set of Ver7 chrome HID headlights on here last year and I just had a bulb go out. I was getting ready to order a new set of D2S bulbs since thats what I read on here they took. I pulled the bulb out today just to make sure and its a D2R bulb. I was just curious if I had things messed up and this is what should be in there or is something wrong? Can the last person have accidently used the wrong bulbs or will they not physically fit? I am not a lighting guru so thats why Im asking. It is a OEM HID kit.

Its def a D2R bulb because it sitting in front of me. What do you think happened with these lights? The ballest just have alot of japanese writing on them so I assume they were OEM since thats what I was told when I bought them.

i could be a burnt bulb. they are just like any other light, just metal halide instead of halogen.
since you bought them used, who knows how old the bulbs are. they could be 3-4 years old if not more. which is about the life you can expect. your best bet for bulbs is go to HIDplanet.com and find ya some nice philips bulbs. and BUY TWO of them. even though you still have one working the new one will be a different color and tons brighter. plus if one went the other could be ready to go sometime soon as well. |

I know They are burnt. That wasnt my question. The question was I had a D2R bulb in a Ver7 headlight which are suppose to be D2S. You orginially said they wouldnt fit???

oh sorry. i misread/understood the question. generally speaking they arent able to interchange with each other, since the d2s is for projecters and the d2r is for a reflector housing. its gotta deal with how the filament is placed in the bulb. the headlamp housing should say on it what bulb is ment to go in it, and then id get whatever the housing says, a d2s makes much more sense that youd have that, make the previous owner made the d2r work.

d2r and d2s are almost identical. they are the same size and everything, except the d2r has a bit of paint on the side of the capsule.
get d2s bulbs. they are meant for the projectors. d2r will work, but most people scrape off the paint with a razor blade before installing. that paint is the only difference. bases are the same, size is the same, everything else. i dont know how much of a difference leaving the paint on the bulb will be, probably not much, but if you are going to get new bulbs go ahead and get d2s. |
