my question is besides the spacing of the studs why would subaru not put the same wheel bearings on all impreza models?

The 5x114.3 bolt pattern has a higher load rating. IMHO the SVX used it and it was 3500 pounds, the STI is only 150 pounds less and if driven "properly" will generate a higher load.

Its probably cheaper to keep using the 5x100 hubs...considering they haven't changed since '89 or so. All I know is that the 5x114 bearings are better. Plus they bolt in. (instead of pressing in) So if they do die, its that much easier to fix. |
