Default Need opinions/ advice head gasket problem

Hey guys i have an 02 bug eye with about 134k on the clock. The motor was rebuilt around 95k from the previous owners due to a radiator failure that happened and the dealer ship rebuilt the motor. The other day i had my spark plugs and coils changed and the mechanic told me that he found some residue on the spark plugs that looked to be coolant. He said this MAY be because of the head gasket and it may be leaking slowly... Now i hope this is not the case, but if it is leaking slowly how long can i drive with it like this? I am thinking of selling it and getting a brand new suby now, but this wont happen for at least 6 months. Will i be able to drive it for that long if it does have a small leak? also how do i check if it is leaking? The mechanic told me to mark the coolant level and check daily to see if it's getting lower. any advice would be great thanks!

All your questions above you need to ask your mechanic... If you dont trust him, find a new one. Based on his suggestions, what are YOUR findings on the leak? We can't tell you if ur car leaks x its going to last y miles before it takes a crap on you.

Thanks for the reply wrxlaund. I just want this car to last without any major problems.. If the head gasket does go or is going, i would much rather sell it and buy a new suby without any headaches. Also how does the head gasket start leaking after the engine was rebuilt around 40k ago? The car is all stock... thats what i dont get.. I mean i know these engines have that problem, but 40k with no upgrades or modifications?

This thread raises a few questions.
  1. Why did you change your plugs and coils?
  2. How does coolant get from the head gasket to the spark plug cavity?
  3. Sure he didn't say oil and valve cover gasket?
