Hi Guys back again with a vengance, as you all no i sold the first car as a rolling chassis due to health and a couple of other minor problems, well the good news is i'm back to my old grumpy self, and have move to Sunny Queensland Australia where the climate is much more arthritis friendly
and have started another build. i got the first bundle of tubes a fortnight ago and have the front half of the chassis finished ready for final welding and will get more tubeing tommorow to finnish the engine bay.

here is a link to the photobucket site with progress to date.

be warned, this one will hit the track
cheers John

I'm glad to see you're back, and that's quite the birdcage you have going.

I'm curious about something. Is this your first (ok second) attempt at a chassis from the ground up?

The reason I'm asking is because we've been kicking around the idea of building a tubeframe car for enduro racing. We don't want to start our own chassis from the ground up without knowing the pitfalls of doing something like this so we've been talking about a lightly modified lotus 7 chassis as the first one.

yep a EG33 is on its way from nz, an sti 5 speed box is under the bench, just waiting for the bits to convert to 2wd only, and it will be turbo'd, hoping for around 400hp, should raise the grin factor a we bit.

cheers John

Turbo EG33 with some head work and 2.2 turbo pistons should be able to hit that 400 number.

Heck, there's some airplane guys using that motor with a turbo making truly crazy amounts of power.

any handy hints on turboing the 33 will be greatfully received, as theres not many down here in AUS and none that have been turbo'd, so local info is a bit scarce.

I ran across a dude who was doing one for a homebuilt airplane running a GT40 with an autronics controller. I think it was his 3rd or 4th plane using that setup. He's got a build journal online somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

There's also a shop here in the states that does great machine work on the eg33. I can't remember the name right now, but they are on the west coast. I'll see if I can find it.

Additionally, the EFI GC chassis with the built EG33 would be a good thing to look at. They did a ton of work. Bobthefabricator on here can point you in good directions on it.

From looking at the motors I have here and looking at your chassis I can only assume that you're going to drysump the thing. If not then please consider it as you'll be able to drop the motor in the chassis a good bit that way.

CP makes pistons for the EG33... WSC if you have questions regarding building up an EG let me know and I will probably be able to answer them for you. Also in regards to head work, the person I would talk to would be Rallybob as he has built the most impressive set of heads I have seen on an EG33...

Oh really?!! Were you looking at building your own chassis? Have connections with roundy-round chassis builders, if you have a design.

What do you want to know? They are pretty much just like an EG and you can do some wild stuff with them. Craziest one I've built was a stroked (78.75mm) and sleeved (only taken out to 99.5mm) EG. For your goals though, simple rod and piston combo for the shortblock and you're set.
Cams, valves, buckets, etc are all available...just have to be resourceful and know what you can/can't do.

Are you planning to run twins or a single turbo?

looked at doing a twin initially, but the logistics of plumbing etc in the confines of the chassis were going to be a problem , so ive decided to go a single turbo, will be much easier to plumb up and will probably give us a better spool response.
cheers John
