Default 2009 Acura TL Test Mule Spotted

A prototype of the all-new Acura TL that is expected to be introduced at either this November's Los Angeles Auto Show or the Detroit Show in January 2009 was caught by a member of the VTEC website performing road tests in Purdue, Indiana. The cameraphone pictures reveal a few details of the TLís body including the weird looking rear-end that seems to be inspired from the shape of Acuraís new trapezoidal grille.

Design aside, according to rumors that were leaked out of recent dealer meeting back in the spring, the new Acura TLís line-up is expected to include a 3.5-liter V6 engine available in both front and all-wheel-drive versions along with a top-end 3.7-liter V6 producing more than 300Hp combined exclusively with an all-wheel-drive powertrain. Sales of the new Acura TL are expected to start in North America during the first half of 2009.

Default 2009 Tl-sh-awd,spied

http://www.leftlanenews.com/acura-tl-future.html
Spy photographers have once again spotted the all-new Acura TL while out testing, this time spotting the SH-AWD version. When it comes to redesigns, Acura appears to be on a roll ó weíve already seen the new RL and TSX this year, and the new TL should arrive before the end of 2008, too.

In April, information leaked out of an Acura dealer meeting in New Orleans regarding the new TL. According to a source who attended the meeting, the 2009 Acura TL lineup will consist of two models: a base front-wheel drive car and an up-level all-wheel drive model. The front-driver will be powered by a 280 horsepower 3.5L V6 whereas the AWD model will receive its motivation from a 3.7L V6 producing 310 horsepower.
Despite boasting 310 horsepower and all-wheel drive, the range-topping model will not sport the Type-S nameplate. In fact, the source says that Acura will not offer a Type-S model, at least not in 2009. It remains unclear if the performance model will eventually join the lineup.
However, the SH-AWD model will sport quad-exhaust and 18 inch wheels to differentiate it from lesser TL models. Our spy photos also clearly show the carís new SH-AWD rear differential.
Acura has promised us a new TL by the end of the year so a Los Angeles Auto Show reveal seems likely, with an on-sale date shortly after.

Looks too much like the current gen Lexus GS. As long as the G35/37 exist, this model will continue to struggle. Honda needs to either take Acura completely Hybird, make it a game changer... as of now, Honda/Acura is a heartless company with no identity in the middle of a war.

I like the looks of it so far. Not sure if im gonna like the front and the "new grille" but i think the rear looks alright (kinda sticks up) but overall the profile of the car looks nice. Ill wait until production to see if it can compete with its rivals.

Continue to struggle? It's the 2nd-best selling vehicle Acura has, behind only the MDX. This means it is the best selling sedan Acura has.

Read the post I was responding to.

Now read it again.

When (or perhaps I should say, if) comprehension sets in, you can come back and apologize later.

i think you are the one that needs to re-read what you were responding to. which was acura struggling to the likes of infinity. you saying that this is the best selling car within the company really means nothing when it's getting outclassed by the competition.. that's what the post you were responding to was talking about

And this is a different point. If you want to argue that the TL could be selling better, fine. It's easy to take pot shots at a car towards the end of its model cycle. Personally, I see far more Acuras on the road, specifically TLs, than I do Infinitis, but whatever. Acura has some popular models, and I don't see how the 2nd-best seller overall, particularly in the last year of a model cycle, could be considered struggling. Could it do better? Sure, what car couldn't? There's a lot of distance between "could do better" and "struggling".

Ghosthound seems to think that I think the G35/37 is made by Acura, and the only way to arrive at that conclusion is to misread the post I was responding to. Do you have any other different points you'd like for me to address?

i think acura need to go rwd, noone else in the pricepoint is selling fwd cars. i think people are finally realizing acuras are tarted up hondas. there used to be some destinction, but lately.. SH-AWD is a start but in the end, it's just an accord.

the TL could be acuras number one seller, but if they are struggling against the competition is it really saying much?

the vast majority of buyers don't care about fwd/rwd/awd, and similarly, prefer automatic to manual. just look at the g35 sedan. how many do you actually see with a manual?

i rarely see any tl type-s models, so i'm guessing most are automatic as well.

My friend took a picture of the rear of one uncamo'd on the freeway the other day. It looks surprisingly good. He said the driver was bombing down the freeway so he couldn't catch up to him.

Just as long as they don't destroy it like they did the TSX. They took the TSX from a sleek stylish car, to a confused ugly wannabe Saturn. Acura seems to be on this signature front grill fix, like Pontiac. However, Pontiac is improving their cars styling.

Uhhh, Audi disagrees. They give the option of AWD, but you might have to step up to a different engine to get it. Most of their range is actually FWD, and FWD makes up a huge portion of entry-level (A3/A4/TT) sales.

Long story short though, what somebody else just said is true: The majority of the populous doesn't know the difference between FWD/AWD/RWD. Most people drive automatics these days, and are more interested in a Bluetooth headset for their cell phone than if their car is RWD or not.

Acura's problem isn't FWD cars, or rebadging Accords, it's their brand identity.

wow there is a lot of brand confusion going on in this thread.

So just to get things straight:

Acura currently makes:
MDX
RDX
RL
TL
TSX

Acura does not make:
G35/G37

Audi does not make:
Accords

Which state do you live in?

Where is the TL made in?

I'd pick a G35 over a TL, but the TLs are actually more popular than people think.

Through May 2008, number of sales for:
TL: 20227
G35: 21079

Similarly, for 2007, up until May, the numbers were:
TL: 24814
G35: 24820

I don't see the TL struggling against the G35 at all in terms of sales. If anything, since the G35 was refreshed in 2007, and the TL is on its last legs, the TL seems to be the one fairing better.

Add the G35 coupe and the scales do tip a bit though.
