Question from a little impreza owner:
I noticed that "ram" type piece on your stock intakes. Does it do any good as compared to what the Imprezas have (ie the intake hole is inside the engine bay after the headlight.... no routing towards outside of the car)? Would it fit on an Impreza? ![]() Taken from a legacy forum...http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=852&start=0

That's a modified stock intake. The silver tube replaces a bunch of other bits and sound deadening parts:
![]() ![]() It's not a "ram" intake, it's just a cold-air setup. I'll gladly put my stock stuff in a box and sell it to you, if you want to try it. |

The benefits from "ram air" are often exaggerated - the last study I read indicates that you only get a few horsepower, and that's when going like 100 mph, so I'm sure the difference is small at best.
That picture looks like a new Legacy than mine so I'll let someone else speculate if it will fit an Impreza without modification. You might want to investigate that same "ram air" piece from the WRX - I'm sure there are a lot of them laying around from people who have upgraded their intake and you can get one for free and experiment. |

I'm only interested in the front part.. not for the ram air (will give me one squirell-power) but for cold air...

I bet it helps a little bit on the highway, alleviating the inefficiencies of the intake system's bends, turns, and air pockets. It's not going to give you much for power, no.

I may have. I have to check with the shop. PM me in a couple of weeks or something...
You can always order it from the dealer. It shouldn't cost that much IIRC... |

You mean from the picture in the first post? That would be HFSDevil's car.

Joker - you're right, except for one little detail. On Imprezas, it leads into the fender in that inner elbow thingie. On legacys, the funnel just ends in the engine bay - which is exactly suited for the 02-03 impreza intake, as these years don't have the in-fender elbow.

The funnel can easily be disconnected from the snorkus/silencer in the fender... Legacy funnels connect to a snorkus/silencer in the fender too, at least the BD/BG/BK...

yes.. but I need that specific model with no in-fender snorkus. This way the output of the funnel is directed towards the back of the car, and not to the side.
