looking for some help with a random noise. I drive a 2000 leggy gt lim. After driving for about 10 or so miles I get a random hi pitch noise coming from my front driver wheel tire area. It is pretty inconsistant with the road, doesnt change when I go over bumps, up hills, down hills ect... The only time it realyl does change is when I am turning or coming back to the left . If I pitch the steering in to the right it seems to go away. the tires are fairly new, brakes are good (it does go away when I put on the brakes though). Would a wheel bearing cause this problem. quick background on the car. It was owned by an older gent who only put 16 k on it until I bought it from him about 3 months ago. any input?

it certainly sounds like a brake pad wear sensor or possibly a brake pad vibration both of which could make the described noise under the described conditions. A pad vibration can be cause by many things ranging from improper installation, debris, missing or broken anti-rattle devices, etc. Have you physically checked the brake pad and associated hardware?

ya, i'd check the pads.. the rotor may be rubbing on the shim which creates that noise

Just an FYI, if it was a wheel bearing you'd be hearing it all the time, and the noise level would change as you accelerate/decelerate.....let it go long enough, and your wheel just might come flying off.
As stated, most likely a pad issue you're experiencing...good luck. |
