you want the easy upgrade more luxury interior... go for the VW 1.8T. if you want the control of AWD, go for impreza RS. it all depend if you are a hardcore street/drag racer or you are more a circuit type. a 1.8T will out drag the RS any day when the road is nice and dry, but a RS will out handle the 1.8T in any type of weather (dry or snow). btw, I have a 1.8T and a WRX.

i would go for the 1.8t. haha. sorry subaru. but its alot easier to mod a car that comes turbo from factory. plus the 1.8 has a way better aftermarket support.

Depends on where you live as well as what you're looking to accomplish in the car.

If you're looking to run any TSD rallies (which are great fun).. AWD will come in handy during the winter rallies, and give you an advantage in the gravel summer rallies.

Being in Ottawa, we get crappy winters.. so I'm sticking with AWD for my winter car. I'll probably move up to an Audi though, when I'm rich and famous. Keep the RS for rallies/racing/fun only.

Thumbs up OBS' rule!

OK, maybe not "rule" per se, but I still love mine!

I went through a similar dilema 2 years ago and picked the OBS. No regrets whatsoever. If you want to pick my brain some more wrt OBS', I'll be at the mini-meet this weekend. I'm easy to find, as I'm usually the only guy with an OBS!

Happy car shopping!

Klug

(P.S. Always go for test drives during snow storms)

If you get the 1.8T with the ASR (can be enabled and disabled at the push of a switch) from VW you will have the same, if not better, traction as the Subaru. A friend has a 1.8T GTI w/ ASR and it has great traction in crappy conditions.

If you want a car that is exciting to drive then get the Impreza. Unfortunately the fit a finish will be nowhere close to the VW. The Impreza suspension is tighter also. Try tailing the back end of the VW under throttle control, forget it.

Jens.
