Default Trying to find absolute brightest dome light bulb---how to test bulb?

Alright, so I'm about install the RA roof vent, which means I will lose my map lights.

I've been looking for a brighter dome light to make up for some of the light that I will lose when the maps are gone. So far I've tried one LED bulb from superbrightleds.com. I installed it, and to my naked eye, I mean it looks bright. But I feel like my eyes are deceiving me, because the LED dome light is a different color compared to stock.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to actually do some hard tests on each bulb I try? Maybe get some kind of physical evidence that bulb X will be brighter than bulb Y?

Or perhaps some of you know a good dome light bulb that you've tried already and you can tell me where I can get it

I got one frm Bed Bath & Beyond. I forgot how much but they were really nice.
I didn't use it for my map light or what ever, I just bought it for.....no reason.

you want to use candle power and or lumens as your benchmark comparing the lights..

That being said with LED"s you have to watch the viewing angle. A narrow viewing angle with a high power may not do you as much good as a lower power but higher viewing angle.

resistor and LED, but pre packaged deals are better, well at least cheaper unless you feel like making your own PCB, express PCB has cheap ones 59$ for 3 boards, then of course you need to know how to solder SMD. As with all things prototyping is expensive.

I reccomend..

www.superbrightleds.com

The guys are tools(at least the one i dealt with), but their product line is improving.

The company LED Dome Light makes one for our cars that are a perfect fit. They have both map and dome lights for those who are interested in both. They are, although, a bit on the expensive side. I have both the map and dome lights in my car and they are a night and day difference from stock. People always comment about how nice and bright they are. You can purchase them from LEDDomeLight.com or I think I've seen them at FastWRX.com. Hope this helps.

Hey I checked their site...I figured that when you meant 'a bit on the expensive side', you meant maybe $15-20. But holy cow...$50 for one bulb!

I mean, if it really is worth it...I guess I could justify spending that kind of money on a single bulb...but still, damn.

I found some similar panels elsewhere for alot cheaper.

http://www.ijdmtoy.com/webpage/products/panel.htm

Do you have any pics of the 50 dollar panels in real world applications?

LED domelight is not 1 bulb. FYI.

I bought it back before the panel clones became more common. It would have added some more choice for the price that is for sure. Competition is always good.

The boards are cut to fit near perfect on the subaru model you choose AND there are 12 high flux leds on it.

I do believe they are approximately right when comparing brightness over stock at 2-3 x brighter.

It is definately brighter than stock by a longshot.

So in your opinion, it's money well-spent...?

I think I will get 2 packs myself, 2 for the maplights and then 1 for the main dome light. I meant the iJDMtoy one actually.
