Default Valve job

Well recently my timing belt skipped a tooth and valves were bent. I am as of now sourcing options. I could replace heads all together and upgrade but money is my heartbreaker. I could buy new valves and replace my old ones. (here is my question for you all).

My setup is as follows

axis stage 2 block
stock 02 wrx heads
fp 18g (plan on going either fp green, red or a frank 30)
ported exhuast mani, intake mani throttle body and tgv delete
modded stock wrx injectors
and all other bolt ons

So for what i am looking for and if i cannot come up for the money for better heads (sti heads) what would you say to get for valves

oem
supertech

AND now i thought you had to port the intake and exhuast ports to run "oversized valves" but i believe i read an article (unless confused on what they wrote) the i could run .5 oversized and another person stating a full .1 oversized on stock ports.

Thanks for the help in advanced.

You will need a sti wiring harness and ecu to use sti heads to their full potential. Why go to bigger valves without opening up the ports to take advantage of the larger valves?
Going to sti cams and new stock valves will probably be cheaper than buying bigger valves and cutting the seats out for larger valves.

Unless I saw a flow bench printout of just using bigger valves that shows a improvement, I don't think the stock size ports will support bigger valves.

yup....you could do just that. you could.

but if you're going to go with a bigger turbo, your WRX heads will definitely be the biggest restriction in making big power with a FP Red or bigger.

you don't need STI heads...just find someone to do a ~stage 2 port (or there's a DIY head port thread in here), milled for +1mm valves, and a multi-angle valve job, and you're good to go.

Look at getting SS intake valves and inconel exhaust valves for some extra safety, but not necessary.

I recently found these guys, that have Supertech valves for a really good dealio:

http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...es-subaru.html

I realize your short on cash, but given your future mods.....do this now and do it right.

my .02

EDIT....but honestly, talk to your tuner about it and get recommendations from him.

Std just means standard (OEM) diameter of the valve. The valves are different sizes intake vs. exhaust. Ordering standard size valves, both sides, will get you standard size intake and standard size exhaust.

Got a question. Don't mean to hyjack but I'm doing the exact same senario and I am doing a home port and polish. I am going to have a local machine sop do a valve job but I would mind going with slightly bigger vavles. Do I need to have the seat replaced or will it support +1mm valves?

Hi sorry to jack the thread as well.

Very soon im doing a sti 2.5 hybrid swap. Im rebuilding my 2005 wrx heads using supertech valve, springs, retainers, ect. "stock cams for now" evo 316g or 18g Just for now i dont want to spend a lot on a bigger turbo "green, gt30, ect." Until i can save up to buy a 6spd or build my 5spd in 6ish months. once i buy a tranny upgrade ill go green or rotated.

So im having my heads rebuilt as stated above. standard process pressure test, clean redeck them, 3 agle valve job. ect. My friend is nice and wont charge me any more to port my valves 0.5-1mm now.

Should i go ahead and go with bigger valves now? I dont think he is planning on pnp the whole intake and exhaust ports much. More just a bulletproof rebuild plus a lil extra. Or is it overkill and will hurt the performance if a small turbo like a evo3 16g?

Sorry again for stealing the thread.

Thanks for any input.

If you plan on doing in later, do it now unless you like wasting time and money pulling the motor and breaking it down so you can do something you could have done in the first place. If you have the funds to do heads, cams, valve, the whole shabang-a-bang do it now or pay double later.

Search my threads, I talk about my experience with heads/cams + small turbo.
