Jared-

Where did you see that circuit of the electronic boost controller. I'm somewhat curious as to what it looks like compared to my idea, and see how it compares to my program in my microcontroller.

I'm gonna need a bigger LCD, too much crap for a little guy. Its almost time for me to test my monster, still need to order a washer fluid pump and the hoses and nozzles for the IC sprayer. I'm hoping the boost controller test goes well, I figure i'm getting ready to commision a new power plant so if I can do that I should be able to keep my car alive through a boost controller test. Course that leads us to the next paragraph.

The old WRX seems to be getting angry. I've developed a "knock". Yeah it pretty much pisses me off beyond all imagination. Considering I can't recall the last time the car has seen 4000 rpms, it's a little disheartening. I drive so much that I rarely use more than a tank of gas a month. 2 miles a day, one to work, one back from work, thats it. I'm going to wait until the weather warms up so I can bike anywhere i need to go. Then I'll have to take it to either the clowns at Larry Miller or the clowns at Tom Scott. I'm pretty bummed.

Thanks Jared.

That thing really isn't electronic boost control. It's more like Electronic actuation of a manual boost controller. I suppose its safer than standard MBC as the spikes would be reduced, but not nearly as cool as a real EBC.

I've been doing some research into boost control theory. Sad thing is I actually understand these papers. Basically it's just like being at work, a boost controller is a PID loop controller, fairly simple if you've ever dealt with one, tuning is the toughest part. But we've got programs at work that will do that for me.

So i'm sticking with my idea, although it was interesting to see other ways of doing this. So far total price on an electronic boost controller with the intergrated intercooler sprayer and hardware will be under $100 total. Wonder how well these would sell for say $199 a shot.

Anyway.....I need to keep the drafters busy...

Actually you'd have to pay $300 Jared, but everyone else in the Boise clan can get em at cost. Heh. I might upgrade to the next higher microcontroller which might up the cost by $15. I'm sure that i'll use that one, but I suppose I can sell the lower budget one.

Jeff-

I'm wondering if there's anyway to convert a serial output to the video for the LCD. Of course you might now want to use that serial connection as it could be used for exporting data logs.

Any information would be greatly helpful. Maybe you and I should sit down over a beer and jot some notes onto a bar napkin. (aka True Engineering)

Beer napkin engineering - ah yes, there's only one place where ideas better than the bar evolve and usually you are by yourself in the particular location I'm thinking of... Bathroom aneurysm engineering. I would recomend the bar...

I would be more than willing to have a beer and jot some ideas.

I drove a Toyota Prius on Monday. It had this cool little LCD touch screen in the dash to help you determine which power source you were using, and to graphically track you milage.

In the 100 some off miles My brother and I drive, we averaged about 43 mpg in town. It was cool.

Touch screens are cool. At UI we put one in the FutureTruck (2000 Suburban) in order to track specific variables. Pretty similar to the Prius display (both hybrids). Course with the Futuretruck cash wasn't much of a problem so we had a PLC running the touch screen with HMI software, super easy if you are looking to drop $5000+. More difficult to land under $500.

When do you think you'd have some time to babble about this Jeff? I'm a little concerned about memory requirements of the larger LCD screen now, but we will see, adding a ram chip on the board probably isn't impossible if I can figure out how to communicate with it. I've got a half-arsed GUI program that i need to figure out how to test. Would look much more like what you are thinking.

I am up for drinking beer and chatting when ever you want. I do have some obligations tonight and probably tomarrow also.

My dad thought it would be funny to enter the TBird in the Boise Roadster show. Keep in mind the car has not been our of the garage inl ike 6 months. It will need probably about 4 -5 hours of detailing to be show ready.

Maybe we could plan something this weekend.

No worries Shawn,

I am currently working on my Knock Indicator, so I am pretty busy.

My solder skills have sure gone way down.
