Default Utec Delta valet mode ????

so i have a stage 4 VF34 set up with sti pinks and i was wondering if valet mode is still functional? i tried switching to map 7 and my knock light came on... so, my question is, if you upgrade your turbo and injectors do you lose the valet mode map?

Map 7 is Security Mode. Map 6 is Valet mode, IIRC. In Security Mode the CEL will continuously flash.

Yes it will work, read the manual, it gives a few other specifics about it.
It's a cool feature.

So what does it do again?
I think I noticed it only allows 7-8psi of boost (meaning mechanical boost control, correct?)

I wouldn't, my car won't even start when the map selector is on valet mode for some reason.

From the manual:

Valet mode is selected by turning the switch to Map 6. This lowers maximum boost
to 7 psi, runs limited timing and uses your Map 1 fuel map (note this is why we
recommend placing your conservative street map in Map 1). The valet will have no
fun hotrodding in your WRX!
So, this means several things. First, for valet mode to limit boost, the UTEC needs to be able to control it. Meaning if you have an MBC, this isn't going to work. Second, it runs mad retarded timing. Meaning that your BSFC will go into the ****ter. This means you'll get terrible gas miliage. Third, it uses your fuel map from map 1. Odds are pretty good this map is gonna be rich anyway, making your fuel miliage an performance even worse.

So, why, in the name of all that's holy, would you want to run valet mode all the time? It's not going to improve fuel economy, it's going to worsen it sevearly. The whole point of Valet mode is to make your car run like crap so that the Valet isn't tempted to take it for a joy ride, ala Ferris Bueler's Day Off.

If you want a low boost map for fuel economy, do it the right way. Make an economy map. That's the whole reason the UTEC gives you 5 user tunable maps to work with. Limit the boost to less than 1 BAR, tune the fuel nice and lean, and get the timing as close to MBT as you can.
