Default 2.0 to 2.5 hybrid build question

Ok I have been reading to the point where my eyes hurt. I have an 05 wrx and spun a bearing. I just bought an EJ257 shorth block. I was I am replacing the oil pump, catless uppipe, catles down, and thats about it. ( side note, anyone selling a decently priced DP?) This is a daily drive but a little extra HP is always nice since I have it torn apart anyway.

My question is this.

I spun a rod bearing so I am having the 2.0L head cleaned, should I have the machine shop do anything else, I have head some mention of valve jobs but not sure what angle to go with or what diffeence it really going to make with out a STI cam. Or with it for that matter. Is porting and polishing it really worth it.

Also I was planning on flashing a stage 1 map, does anyone recommend a map to use? I am on a budget and 500 bucks is a bit much to get it tuned at the local speed shop, but then again I don't want detonation so would a stage 1 map be suffice?

Any and all help is welcome thank you.
