Angry Purge Control Solenoid valve?

In the processing of installing a TGV's less intake manifold, new injectors, perrin fuel rails, and a APS intake tube. In the processing of breaking down the old intake manifold i broke off a chunk of the damn purge control solenoid valve . From the one or two posts i could find with search it seems possible this may not be a necessary control item. Anyone have any light on this little guy? What exactly does it do, i cant discern any information from the FSM. Can i just cap the lines leading up to it?

From the reading i have been able to do since last night, it seems its possible to remove the valve and remove the CEL code form the ECU (via some sort of EM) and be fine. Now if i can just find a good diagram of how all the vacuum lines are connected to that and what exactly they all do, i will be able to get my FPR back into one of those lines with the purge valve removed.

The purge control solonoid is responsible for controlling the vacuum system for the gas tank. Basically it forces the fuel vapors in the tank throught the charcoal canister.

Obviously removing this is bad from a federal emissions stardard point of view, but I dont think it will effect anything from a driveability standpoint. Mine has been broken for like 4 years now. It does throw a CEL. P1443.

Thanks, exactly what i found from my reading, ill post up some links to the stuff i found to help out others.

jeffg, did you remove the solenoid all together and cap the line next to the fuel filter? My JDM TGVless manifold doesn't even have a vacuum port for this thing anyways.

Actually my problem wasnt with the solonoid but something else I left all the hardware installed. The dealership told me it was the actual purge valve and not the vacuum solonoid. They wanted $300 to replace it, which is why I never did it.

I would say you need to cap off the vacuum side of the solonoid to prevent a vacuum leak, but if you dont have the vacuum nipple at all, problem solved.
