Default is it possible to determine wheels fitment for STi w/o seeing the wheels?

hi.. sorry... trying to buy something from a fellow member but it is difficult to determine fitment for the STi (brembo)..

Car is a 2004 STi.

Wheels is a CSA Gladiator: 17x7 - ET48.

What is the determining factor for clearing the brembo? width shouldn't matter (as I am not trying to determine whether it will rub or not)... i think it is the offset that is more important..

any help? no one seem to use these rims so it is hard to determine.

thanks!

Width does of course matter, but there are plenty of wide wheels that don't clear.

Spoke angle/curve is the determining factor, and there ought to be a formula one could devise to calculate whether a given wheel should clear, but I've not seen one.

Ultimately, test fitting is the only 100% reliable method.

According to the STi wheel fitment thread there is at least one other 17x7 +48 wheel that will clear (Racing Sparco Tarmacs), though its roundish spoke curve looks much more promising than the straight-looking spokes of the CSA Gladiator.

Offset does affect brembo clearance, but so does everything else....

One 17x8 et 48 may fit fine, where another type of wheel 17x8 et 48 may not clear brembos.

Bottom line, no, you cannot determine fitment just by looking at it - assuming you have all the specs, but haven't done any previous research.
