I've seen some cracked ringlands but damn that is a chunk

when i first pulled it out it didnt look too bad except for the fact that the land between the 2nd and oil ring was also cracked. as soon as i pulled the rings off the pieces fell off and i started laughing! suprisingly, the cylinder wall is in great shape, no grooves or scratches!

I am pretty sure I am suffering the same symptoms, noisy on start up, #3 cylinder tests around 90, no noticeable power loss. How many km's did you do with it in this condition? Amazing the bore survived, how much boost caused that? Mine peaked around 1.45bar in 4th

My EJ22T pistons must be in better shape? 160k miles and 3k miles of hard driving with the EVO3-16G turbo. hummmm.....

Look at the way they broke off! In both cases it looks like some gas got between the two ring-lands and then went BANG!
The top appears to be torn up, the bottom, torn down. Highly unusual, but apparently, not uncommon with Subaru's, given that 06rexwagon seems to have suffered the same problem. ![]() |
