Angry Is there a such thing as touch up paint looking good?

Well, my baby has her first scars from some meanie in a parking lot, and I am angry! I think some of Orion's 'scratch remover' will help quite a bit, but there are still a few good sized nicks that I would like to try and smooth over. If I were to buy touch up paint, would it be:

a. too expensive
b. worth it
3. look any better than it does now

Just wanting a little advice because I know all of you boys are so smart!

Thanks for any info, and if anyone on here is actually good at applying touch up paint, I would appreciate the help!

Touch-up never matches the original paint due to the clear coat applied to the original paint. So the touch up will alway look a little off from the original paint if looked at up close. You will know, everyone else will probably won't care to much....unless it is a judge..
Even an area repair will never match the original in some cases.

To make it even close apply a light dab on the area affected. let dry. Wait a while(next wash) and wax over it. It will be fairly close.

BTW...touch-up does NOT contain clear...it is just a base...

Cat,

here's the deal with touch up paint......it really depends on the scratch. Like i mentioned earlier.......if you can run your fingernail over the scracth and it catches it will probably not dissapear totally with polishing compound, but polishing compound may help it.

As for touch up paint.....if you can get it matched perfectly....which almost never happens....it's always a hair off.....and you can apply it only to the fine little line.....again which isn't always the easiest with the supplied brush.....if you can get some touch up paint that matches good, try and buff the scratch out first, and then get a small paint brush and be very meticulate about the paint it would probably help fix it up.

Then I'd apply some buffing compound over the scracth and use a cleaner wax on top of that to help blend it in with the rest of the paint.

Hope that helps...

Josh

Anyone actually tried the langka stuff?

it appears to be just a simple polishing compoud that evens the edges that the touch-up makes.

Nope, I actually meant to put that, I was trying to add a little humor to a more or less depressing thread about my car, which I know, is not a Subaru and should not be spoken about on these forums...

cat

PS - Orion, I can now feel your pain! You have to let me in on whatever you have that might make my car almost perfect again!

Unhappy Orion

My pain may not be as financially devastating as yours, but emotionally, it equals, if not surpasses your experience! I have not had my car near as long as you have, and this being my first major ding problem, on my first ever brand new car, I am extremely crushed! I have lost all faith in common decency.
