Default need some help....

I need some advice
Ok i have a 96 legacy gt it had a 2.2l closed block with 96. 2.5 heads and a turbo put in it.. it worked ok but it was an auto so i worked up the parts to do a 5 speed turbo swap..and did the swap...then wiring.... the guy that i had got the car from in that state told me to get this 5 speed harness only problem is that it is for a non egr car i have a egr car also i dunno if it matters but i have dohc and that car had sohc... the harness was from a 95 2.2l it was like the pre-outback..... outback body but had a 2.2 so long story short i have no clue what to do about engine management the ecu in there is the same as the harness....so car runs like *****
Do you think i should swap a different harness in or run this harness and get a EM or do both? what EM would you suggest for this setup? i have a pp6 wire in from raliitek but don't know if that is what i am going to be needing...
any help is greatly appreciated.....

and where i am going with the car is i am just gunna keep building slowly lol it already has a fmic manual boost controller and a air intake
thanx
Justin

First off, the motor you're using is a 2.2? I thought those only came in SOHC configurations? And no matter what it is, if you've got a DOHC motor, you need a DOHC ECU. If you've got a SOHC motor, you need a SOHC ECU. You can use a standalone EM system with either, because it's just that - stand alone - no need for factory ECU.

If you want to run a 2.2 with a 5 speed, I'd find the harness and ECU out of a car that has the same motor as you (SAME, whether that means with EGR or whatever...) and transmission you're running.

Keep in mind that in the case of a 5 speed, there are only a couple things you have to hook up - neutral switch (optional) and reverse switch. I can't recall whether there's a speed sensor you need to hook up as well or not, I'll try to remember to look at it.

Anyway, you can run a 5MT with just about ANY Subaru ECU, I used my 4eat ECU when I dropped in a 5 speed and just had to swap a couple of pins and wire a couple of circuits manually. It's much more important to get the ECU and harness for your engine and supporting systems (EGR, evap., etc.)

Good luck,
Aaron

thanx...
yes the motor is a 2.2l closed deck but it has heads from a 96 2.5 on it which are dohc...would it be better to just swap in the ecu from the 2.5? or and the harness but it was an auto harness..
i just don't know what to get the harness from if it comes to that cuz like you said 2.2s only came with sohc...
btw the car runs just not very good....has the 5speed turbo tranny from early legacys

OK, so it's a hybrid motor. That makes it a little different. The 2.5L and the 2.2L have a lot of differences that will affect you in this case - namely compression ratio, fuel injectors, and flow characteristics. I'm not sure how you could use any factory ECU and make it work but there are others that have some sweet hybrid setups. I'm not sure if they're running standalone EM or piggyback, or even factory. You should post in the conversions forum and search around in there. Also look in the forced induction forums as the setup you have (obviously) isn't a stock setup, so you'll have better luck in the technical forums than here.

I think you may have to make a hybrid harness as well, but then again, both SOHC and DOHC have only one cam sensor so it may work either way. I guess you should look at wiring diagrams for the two motors and find out which one has all the connections you'd need. Then use that harness with whatever ECU will run it. But again, that's just a guess. I also don't know if the knock sensors are the same so I'd be careful running that motor too much as you could have detonation going on.
