Default Upgraded Halogen Bulbs

Hey all, currently driving an '02 outback sedan but looking to trade in for an '08 4 door blue impreza /w premium package. Anyways, I'm looking to get some tints and some new headlights, and I'm trying to figure out whether or not to get HIDs or just upgraded halogen bulbs. Does anyone with a car with similar headlights have different bulbs? The car comes with projection headlights but I'm not sure if I can just install the HIDs or if I'd just have to settle for regular bulbs.

Side note: I'd prefer not to have to make any permanent changes to the car (i.e. drilling, clipping wires, etc). Thus, I don't want to put the time and money into a whole HID set.

Get Osram (Silverstar, Night Breaker) or Philips (Vision Plus, X-Treme) bulbs. Sylvania Silverstars are junk and not even close to either. Absolutely avoid anything with blue in it, regardless of manufacturer. Blue bulbs are coated with film or tint that gives it the color but reduces actual light output.

powerbulbs.com is a great source.

I have Osram Silverstars in a 94 Sentra (reflectors) and they are easily as bright as my stock 06 Impreza (projectors).

As for HIDs the only irreversible modification would be drilling the dust caps, but I'm sure you can find replacement ones for $20 from the dealer. You shouldn't have to modify any wires or attach the ballast with anything permanent.

Here is the lightbulb FAQ in the Electrical forum.

Has anyone here ordered an HID kit from their manufacturer? I'm considering doing that too, but I'm not sure. Those nightbreakers are awesome though, thanks for that.

do NOT buy an HID kit. do yourself a favor and buy some high quality +xx bulbs. (there are some good suggestions above)

HID kits are not made for the OEM halogen optics, especially subaru's already crappy light setups. there are pics floating around online that prove that an HID kit in an 08 looks like hell. i will see if i can find them for ya.

Okay thanks for the advice, sounds great. Keep me updated.

Is there anyone out there that agrees/disagrees with any of this?

I think I'd go with the nightbreakers so far, but what about the Osram Cool Blue? It seems as though the bulbs do not have any tint on it, and they're made by Osram, but I figured I'd ask. It's really hard to find any pics of the bulbs from the outside on a car, does anyone here have any decent pics of nice bulbs from in front of the car?

Thanks again.

Don't get anything with blue in the name. There is always some compromise to get a blue hue.

yeah, dont get anything that is "cool blue". theyre marketing scams to make you think bluer light is better light, when in reality the blue coatings reduce lumenen output

don't order by year of your car. order by what bulbs you use.

if your car takes an H1 then order H1, etc.
