Smile Ice Racing Update!!

-- Boston Chapter Ice Racing Bulletin for March 5, 2002 --

Sponsored by Foreign Motors West and Bavarian Autosport -- Thank You!

Held on Stinson Lake in Rumney, New Hampshire for 2002

The ice has all healed up from the snow and rain we received -- it is all
frozen solid. A few people (ice fishermen perhaps) did drive onto the
lake over the weekend. Near the entrance there are a number of frozen
ruts. I am glad that we did not hold an event and ruin our Ice Racing
area like that. Right now we have near perfect Ice Racing conditions.
The ice is almost smooth, but has some texture and very small bumps and
rises. This afternonn it was slick but grippy ice. I do not normally
associate grippy slick ice with 20 degree temperatures, but that is what
it was like. Give a lot of gas and your wheels would spin. Feather the
throttle and you could accelerate quite well. And I had no problem
standing up out there!

IMPORTANT:
Although we might be able to run right through the end of March on Stinson
Lake, we do not want to postpone another weekend just in case. At any
time we could receive weather that would end the Ice Racing season.
Therefore, IF THE WEATHER FORECAST IS BAD FOR SUNDAY, WE WILL HOLD AN ICE
RACE ON SATURDAY! As of today, the weather forecast is such that a
Saturday event is likely. We will decide by Friday at NOON whether to
hold the Ice Race on Saturday or Sunday.

If anyone is particularly disappointed with the possibility of an Ice Race
on Saturday, or if anyone believes that Friday noon is too late to make a
decision, please contact me at jackson@boston-bmwcca.org.
Do NOT try to contact me at listmaster@boston-bmwcca.org! That address
may never get read!

See you on the ice!

..... naturally, on a weekend that I have plans on a Saturday. Unless I could get from the lake up in NH to Haverhill MA by 5PM. Read: unlikely.

WHY DO YOU HATE ME SO, MOTHER NATURE? :monkey:

*sigh* Thanks for the update Pete!

John,
You should e-mail Stan Jackson Jr. Depending on the run order you might be able to make it. I think class X/Y go first this week, but I am not sure. You could ask to be assigned an early work assignment (if you get one), so you can leave early.

They are pretty flexible. I didn't have to work at the last event.

-- Boston Chapter Ice Racing Bulletin for March 6, 2002 --

Sponsored by Foreign Motors West and Bavarian Autosport -- Thank You!

Held on Stinson Lake in Rumney, New Hampshire for 2002

Get ready everybody! The Parker Spooner Memorial Ice Race will be held
this weekend! There is a 90% chance that the event will be on SATURDAY.
That is right, our first ever Saturday Ice Race! Registration and start
times remain the same. The weather should be absolutely beautiful.
Translating the forecast to Stinson Lake, I would expect high 40's and
some sun on Saturday. There should be a practice course available all
day. And no snowbanks! If you are not aware, we award our nicest FTD
trophies at the Parker Spooner event!

Many of you might enjoy spending Saturday night in the Plymouth area and
perhaps skiing at a nearby mountain on Sunday. Or perhaps a group of Ice
Racers would simply like to keep the Plymouth House of Pizza full all
Saturday evening, after our dinner gathering in the late afternoon. Pool
table and bar are in the back.

Watch the Bulletin for any changes to our schedule. Final decisions by
Friday at noon.

See you on the Ice!

I think it's Exit 26 from the North or Southbound lanes. You'll just have to go the correct direction off the ramp.

Here are the directions:
