Default Help w/ knock sensor

I have a Zeitronix WBO2 and it has an feature to log aux. sensor data 0-5v. I was hoping that I could monitor the knock signal with this. There are 2 wires @ the ecu for the knock sensor. 1 is called "signal" and reads 2.8 v the other is called "shield" and has 0v. I taped in to the signal wire and the Zeitronix unit reads a constant 2.8v even when knock occurs. Do I tap the "shield" wire instead? I guess I don't understand how the knock sensor reports knock to the ECU.

The knock sensor is a piezio elecrtric device. As it detects vibrations from a misfire it sends out a frequency signal. It isn't a DC level change.
