Default Css Tmic

Looking for people who have first hand experience with the CSS TMIC. It sounds good, but how do you think it rates in comparison to other TMIC's on the market (including STI)?

I saw a thread here on thier FMIC, and people seem happy with it. The biggest problem seems to be getting it at all. My understanding is that CSS is a little overwhelmed right now.

Let me know your opinions guys!

Carlos

Just got my car dynoed at Swift Motorsports in Norwich, CT. I have been running a CSS TMIC since April.

I made just over 310 FtLb of torque and ~240 HP on their Dyno Dynamics.

Just ordered another TMIC for a friend of mine with a '07 STI. Currently stage 2 tuned with a 70mm APS CAI, Helix Catted Down Pipe, Walbro 255 fuel pump, and Greddy EVO 2 with stock STI intercooler. Will post up before and after dyno sheets when he gets tuned next week.

As you can see, from the first run (RED) on 10/18 running a Cobb AP (Protuned), A Helix catted downpipe, Greddy Evo 2 cat back, 255 lph fuel pump, and a 70 mm APS CAI.

about 295-300 lb-ft of torque and about 280 hp.

The second run (BLUE) was on 10/30 with the only change being the addition of a CSS TMIC.

about 300+ lb-ft of torque and about 280 hp.

The third run was after an open source tune.

about 365 lb-ft of torque and 302 hp.

So to summarize... over 65 lb-ft of torque was gained by tuning for the TMIC, and about 20 hp was gained.

Carlito, I have one of their TMIC's.

Fitment was Ok. Not good, but Ok.
The inlet holes had to be ported to match up to the inlet pipes.
Packaging was sub par.

Customer service was the worst that I have ever experienced. Their communication was horrible. They lied repeatedly.

With that said, it does a nice job. I wouldn't recommend the company, but if you can get one used, go for it. I've seen a couple going for a little over 100.00 used iirc.

I'm the friend with a TMIC... its a great product moves a ton of air but from what i've been told its cooling factor isn't the greatest. I was told by two people that know their stuff (a tuner and another seller), but it doesn't seem to really be a factor unless you go bigger than a 18g (like i am). So, do i like the TMIC for what i currently have (stock) yes, its great. Am i going to keep it when i upgrade to a 20g.. no, but i might go with their FMIC.

ps.. the clark turner map rocks

Honestly the TMIC is good up to a TD05 20g but anything over that you would want to go FMIC if you can. Most people who keep a TMIC usually run a 20g or smaller so thats what we were shooting for to appeal to the largest market. Hands down for the price the TMIC cannot be beat.

P.S. I was just in Pittsburgh tonight!! Delivered some parts to Ryan and he took me to Nobles. Great guys!!

The horse is dead...Lets stop beating it. We had SUPER issues but we have them worked out now and are back up and running. Customers orders ship within 48 hours now. Thanks for your review on the parts though! As for the ports we had that issue fixed and they all come with the large ports now so thats no longer an issue. We also elongated the mounting holes so they fit flawlessly on all the models now.

since my question didn't get answered in the vendor for sale thread, i'll ask here since this is a review thread

since ccs stated that many folks have had this on their vf39, how are the lengths of the throttle body and ypipe hoses on the td04?? i'm concerned of the fitment since i'm on a td04.. thanks

Yes we intentionally ship the kits with silicone that is too long so you can trim it down for whichever need. Thanks!!

Alright, here's my review of the TMIC.

Here's the Specifications of it from the CSS Website:

Size: 20x4.5x11.5
Advertised pressure drop: less than 1 psi at 14.5 psi
Flow rating: In excess of 850 cfm
max psi: unknown (we have tested to over 35 psi with no leaks)
Temp drop: up to 300 degrees at 80 degrees ambient air temp.

I'm not going to go into issues with CSS Performance itself, this is simply a review of the product.

First off, the packaging of the TMIC was good, but worried me a bit. It was simply packed with foam peanuts around it, so there were lots of peanuts in the fins that needed to be cleaned out. Not much of a problem, but it could have been made easier by putting a plastic bag around the TMIC.

All the parts needed to install were provided, including gaskets for the Y-Pipe. It would have been nice to have included a gasket for the BPV, but we used the old one which is fine. Hoses for the Y-Pipe were good quality. They needed to be trimmed a bit for optimal fitment, but that's much better than it being too short!

I would say that overall build quality and workmanship are pretty good - fitment wasn't too bad and no modification was needed to get it to fit. We put a piece of foam between the AC lines and the IC to prevent rubbage, but we didn't need to bend anything. One possible issue: we used the stock hose from the IC to the Throttle Body (you can see it in the photo, the hose in the middle of the IC), and it isn't ideally long enough. I'm ordering a new, longer one to ensure correct fitment. The size/diameter of the hose is 2.75", from what one of my friends found.

As for performance, I'm in the middle of getting it internet tuned by Matt from 555 Motorsports. I have a fairly typical stock turbo Setup (Catless 3" exhaust, up-pipe, and K&N Drop-in filter with Snorkus Delete), and am coming from a Cobb Stage II Map.

The car definitely feels better all around, but I'm sure that's more from a getting a good protune versus the OTS map. The Powerband is much smoother, and the car pulls harder for longer. The stock turbo (and injectors, which are at about 98% duty cycle at WOT) seems to be pretty much maxed out with this setup.

Will be taking it to a dyno once I get a chance!

Here's some pics of the TMIC:
Bottom:

Installed:

Thus far I'd give it an 8 or 9/10. For the price, I don't think you can go wrong. It fits nicely and seems to do the job pretty well, and is supposed to work better than an STi TMIC.

What are you guys doing about your stock splitters on the regular WRX? Will this work fine or do you need to work out a way to get your stock splitter to seal right with the intercooler?

haha carlos i ran into you in the thread about your noise issue, and i have the css tmic and it works fine. Really freaking big! I did have one problem when i took off the bov for some work and the helicoils came out of the screw holes. luckily it was a reverse bung and i retapped it and stuck header bolts in there. all doing so with out getting metal shavings all in there.
