Hey guys, I might have posted this thread in the wrong section but I have been doing a ton of research and cant find the answer. I am installing STi Brembo brakes on my 2006 WRX this weekend. I am worried that the stock 17" wheels wont fit over the brakes.
I am wondering if anybody has had any experience or fitmit issues with the stock 06' WRX wheels over a larger brake set? I am trying to avoid buying spacers, as I have not read too many good things about them, but I also like the stock wheels and would like to keep them. But before I get too far into this, I would like to know early on if I need spacers or not so that I can get them ordered before I tear down my brakes. Thanks for your help guys. -Robbie

The stock '06 WRX wheels will NOT fit over the Brembos. You'd need a pretty big spacer, which would also require longer wheel studs. Really, you should just get wheels that fit over the Brembos, so budget that into your brake upgrade. Here's a question, why do you want to upgrade? The stock 4/2 pots on the '06 are decent brakes.

Check the brakes/suspension forum, brake supersticky, brembo FAQ. There's a list of wheels that clear in there.

I test fit them last night...you guys are right, the spokes wont clear the calipers. I am going to need at least a 10mm spacer from the measurements I took. So that will have to do until I save enough for new wheels
. I am doing this upgrade because I track the car and have a few very nice back roads in my area, and the stock brakes work great, but for the amount of heat generated at the track my rotors are having issues. Originally I was going to only upgrade to Stop Tech rotors, new pads, and SS brakelines. But I came across a deal for these I couldnt pass up, as I havent spent too much more money on this upgrade than I would have doing the just the rotors and pads. -Robbie |
