that's something you need to ask a tire specialist, they'll be able to tell you if it's safe to patch/plug the tire...pics would help since we have no idea where the nail is in the tire.

is it in the center of the tread? is it close to the sidewall? is it in the sidewall?

i have a plug in one of my RE92s, and it has lasted about 20k. Looking at replacing now, but really it depends on how bad the puncture was.

I also had good luck with patching the RE92 after having a screw puncture the tire through the tread. I'd go that route.

...all patches I have had have always lasted the life of the tire. As nhat said, you need a specialist to look at it and tell you for sure whether it's repairable (sounds like it is, given the location and the fact that it was just a nail).

Plug that bish... 10min tops in the driveway...

Ok, I know that was a brash reply, based on the fact that the only thing between you and the road is the tires...

I've plugged tires many times, never once have I had a problem with my plug job...

If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you get a plug kit with rubber cement in it.. Then, use the "rasp" really well on the tire to open the hole up (you'll understand if you do it yourself) then lube the crap out of the plug with rubber cement,it acts as much as a lube as it does a sealant, shove it in about half way, turn 1/4 turn and then quickly pull the tool, let it set for a few minutes and trim the leftovers with a razor knife..

BTW, I live in an area of horrible roads and about 60% dirt roads, and never had a plug leak or fail...
