hey guys,
where can i get a shortblock (wrx 2003-05) it will be going in to rs 05? what would be a good price? i have seen many blocks of ebay for 150-500 but all them have something wrong with them is it worth it fixing a spun bearing #4 or a piston seal?

Nothing wrong with the 2.0ltrs. Rallispec.com builds 2.0ltrs, sleeved and Cosworth pistons and rods for around 5500. Which I'm opting to purchasing and running a 20g with it. Hopefully making 320-360whp we'll see if not an 18g will do....

For 4g's you could get a built 2.5L if you go to the right place.

If you are just looking to run 15 psi, then pull your motor and swap in low compression pistons.

One way or another, you need EM of somesort and a tune.

Kinda vague on what your goals are, what equiptment you have and what you plan on spending... honestly it all comes down to these....

If you want a turbocharged car buy an older wrx and play with it imo, honestly converting your rs over would be very expensive...

Yea you can get a built 2.5ltr for that much, but how much is the new trans swap gonna be? jdmspecc4u.com I dont know if these guys are still in business or not but they got v7-v8 short blocks, long blocks, etc. If not them gruppe-s.com deals with v8 blocks....Happy hunting

sure thats about half of it, what short block are u going to end up using? Injector size? If u use a 2.0ltr v7 or v8 why swap pistons? The compression ratio is already 8.0:1, should be good to go dont u think?

Swap in a EJ22 shortblock, run 15 lbs. with em, a tune, fuel pump upgrade, and better injectors. Really cheap, and you get 200 cc's more displacement out of it also. Not to mention the requisite exhaust and intake things you will need. (turbo engine crossmember)

honestly, if you have an 05 RS the easiest and best way to get a WRX engine in, operating and without issues is to sell the car and buy a WRX, seriously!

otherwise just keeping looking in the classifieds on here.

For a good used WRX engine, you will be looking at about $2k with everything...then comes the joy if swapping it all in. Now I imagine the wiring harness change should be pretty much plug and play. you still need a clutch, won't have the all the little wrx things, the pull type tranny, bigger brakes....

Just buy some wiseco pistons (525)
Eagle Rods (400 ish)
New bearings
have it all balanced, block bored and honed.
For less than 2 grand, you got a strong bottom end.
Then get your turbo kit for 3k ish and blammo, tons of POWA

don't be a ***** and get a 2L. 2L's are a total disappointment. 2.2 or higher.
there's a reason the badest ass production subaru ever (22B) was 2.2Ls and not 2.0L.

Honestly its what u want to do with the car as stated above, 2.2l great motor. You are not going to be a female dog for buying 2.0l, the japanese have been tuning the 2.0l for along time now. Sure someone can give u a shopping list, or dream sheet making it sound easy but in all reality do u have the dough?, if u do all power to u make it happen.

well, if I were you, I realistically look at long term goals with the car. What engine management is available for the 05 RS? how hard it a wrx swap into an 05 RS?
Dom's gurl does have a good point. Building the 2.5 is rather cheap and you will have stronger engine in the end. Now the real issue still sits at what electronics are going to control the car?

Do you guys know any websites where I could just get a plain stock 2.0L engine or maybe a 2.5L swap with supporting components into a 2003. I either have a valve problem or an oil ring problem and I just wanna replace my engine and I hear it is cheap. I am just having trouble finding where to buy from.

The background of my engine is that I puff out blue smoke when cold and run inconsistent hp numbers on the dyno.

if you have an RS, the biggest issue you will have is controlling the fuel, timing and boost for building your engine or replacing with a factory engine...
that is why I say see if hydra makes an EM for you or do a full wiring swap to a wrx harness or just buy a used wrx...

otherwise you can wire in a full EM or wire in a bunch or piggy backs (crappy)

Hydra makes a harness for him.
you can get used 2.17 boxes for about 1k bucks. Or go with a used 2.5 for about 1500 or a new 2.6 for like 1700ish.

With a hydra, you can pretty much do whatever you want.
