My auto dimming mirrior/Compass is not working. Actually no power.

Mine melted, trying to figure out how to get off now so I can replace it. I guess this is a common problem.

There appears to be a liquid behind the glass that is now flowing. This is the liquid that changes the shade of the mirror. It seems to have dropped some, so now there is an area above the liquid line that is not shaded and the part below the line is shaded. This line changes as the liquid flows from side to side. Pretty weird...

The layers inside the mirror have separated, allowing the electrochromic fluid to flow where it shouldn't. When that happens the mirror is shot.
To remove the mirror, disconnect the electrical connector behind it, then turn the mirror 90 degrees in either direction and pull it off.
Your OEM mirror is made by Donnelly, although you can get a replacment from Subaru you can also source one elsewhere. Check Ebay and other online vendors. If you get an aftermarket/non-OEM version they are available with additional features, such as outside temp and map lights.

I finally got some time and took a pic of the "melted" rear view.

Hope it shows you visually whats going on.

had/have the same problem....check the fuse. When my power to the RVM went, the outside mirrors control didn't work either.... blown fuse in the fusebox by the change holder.
^^Bought one of those ebay mirrors w/outside temp but haven't hooked up yet
