Question Quick tire fit Q?

I'm going from 17x7's to 17x7.5's in a few days. My current wheels have 225/45/17's on them, which are brand new. I'm curious to know if 225/45/17's will also fit a 17x7.5 application. I'm hoping to save some $. Thanks!

Exactly, not only will the 225/45/17 fit, but you will get more contact patch with the wider wheel, which is good.

THAT is one of the wives tales/misconceptions of this subject

and difficult to 'explain' why it is NOT true, but isnt

the shape of the contact patch is changed a bit, but the big benifit is that the sidewall is 'straighter' and not as 'bulged' which helps keep the contact patch more stable in use, among other things

I wish I would have gone with 225/45-17 on my 17x7.5's, insted I kept the stock fitment of 215/45-17 and my "lip protectors" on the tires, don't quite "protect" like they should..

using 235/40's on my 17x7.5(wish id got 17x8 ) accomplishes much the same thing

i have used 235/40's for a long time and it isnt perfect but seems to work well enough and hasnt rubbed on anything
