well after further research, im looking into the 17x9 with a 35 mm offset. ooo yeah and also my current set up does not rub. so 17x9 with 255/40 tires. will it work?

Are your fenders rolled...a lot? If not, you'll rub. I have an '06 STI and I rubbed slightly in the rear with 255/40-17 NT-01 on a 17x8.5 +48.

I'd recommend a wheel with a lower offset. For a 17x9, I'd say somewhere near +45 would be a lot better.

I had a set of Racing Hart wheels that were 17x9 et48 and the 255/40r17 rubbed with the fenders rolled, but the 245/40's worked.

Just my experience.
