Default Milwaukee Dealers - Mod Friendly? and a few other Qs

Just a few quick questions regarding Milwaukee area dealers. I've only lived in this area for a few years and have had limited exposure to the local shops & dealers.

Are the dealers mod friendly with respect to warranty work? More importantly, has anyone experienced the opposite...warranties denied with mild modifications?

I bought my car ('08 STI) at Sommers and this is the dealer closest to me. They are listed as an SPT dealer and I think I read once here they were mod friendly. They've been real good with the minimal warranty work that we had on our Forester XT (totally stock).

It's typical of me, but I'm probably overthinking this. I'm considering a Cobb AccessPort and going Stage I; perhaps going Stage II eventually or just CBE. Perhaps a protune. Maybe swaybars and coilovers for suspension upgrades. No heavy mods or turbo upgrades. Car is a daily driver.

Oh, and from what I've read here, the local tuner with the most accolades is Jorge in Chicago at P&L. Is there anyone here in Milwaukee proper that is a reputable tuner? Are there any Suby dedicated shops or otherwise recommended independent shops for suspension installation & alignments.

Thanks in advance.

(I'm cross posting this from IWSTI - sorry if that offends)

suspension/alignment got to big bear in oconomowoc or lake country alignment. both are amazing. king motorsports (north american distributor of mugen products-honda stuff) uses (or maybe used to-dunno, haven't talked to king since clayton left) big bear for their alignments/cornerweighting.

Jorge at P&l is the only tuner worth seeing.

The one piece of advice I have for anyone near Milwaukee, is never, ever take your car to Lakeland in Sheboygan. They are a bunch of idiots who don't know anything.

My experience with Sommer's was that they wouldn't go look for mods when doing warranty work (within reason...if you go in with a bad trans or engine, they'll probably do their homework).

Installs - Tim Sanderson in Fredonia. His screenname is Tim Sanderson.
Alignment - Tires Unlimited in Port for basic stuff (stockish setups w/ stockish settings...they'll make sure it's good). For a performance alignment, go to Lake Country in Oconomowoc.

yea sommers (where i work) dosent really look for mods...

true story:
a WRB bugeye with a V-mount, a massive baby ingesting turbo, hand fabricated intake manifold, and gutted interior came in for transmission problems (i'll let you guess what they were) and sitting on the floorpan, where the seat once was, was a dyno graph reading 450ish hp. they warrantyed the trans, and even ignored the light flywheel and 6puck... lol not to mention that the 4 years 60k or whatever it was is long over.

...yea sommers is kinda stupid, but they dont care about intake exhaust or a gauged up interior... only if there is direct evidence of something on or directly related to the broken stuff that is obvious you did, then they will tell you to fly a kite!

thanks - from the few times we've had service at Sommers, I must say they've treated us well, one of the reasons I ended up making my purchase there

Thumbs up

For alignments I'd definitely recommend Lake Country Alignment in Oconomowoc.

Your profile says that you're Stage II, so I'm assuming that you have a full TBE and tune.

Out of curiosity, what kind of work were you trying to get done, and did they deny it altogether or just a portion of it?

Yea it's pretty much stage 3+ rite now. I was going on vacation for two weeks and just got my exhaust and up pipe, and I had them put it on so it would be done when I got back. This was a good two years ago, but I believe they denied it altogether.

I will second Tim Sanderson for work on a Suby in the area. Nice guy, good work!

I bought my 08 STi from Sommers in March for under invoice. Honestly, the only good experience I ever had with them. I tried to buy a wrx years ago and had the hardest time dealing with them.

They also never wanted to warranty some issues I had with my WRX which was Stage 2. I have also heard those that have had no problems with Sommers. I do my own work on my car so I will probably never take it back there. I had to go back for my free oil change at 1k miles or so but thats it.

Taking it off the lot the sales manager, finance manager and service manager all were expecting me to take it to the track in the near future. They kept telling me to bring it back and show off the power mods...

I have had no experience with Don Jacobs but have not heard very good things about them. Between the two I have heard Sommers is preferred.

Posting from my phone....
