Default a lot of oil coming out valve cover breathers....

so i've been burning a lot of oil lately.....tonight i determine the oil is spewing out the valve cover breathers.....and i mean a lot of oil.....

i'll be getting a catch can 2moro but i think it'll get filled up way to quick.....i'll also compression test it up...

the car still runs great...so im kinda doubting its something major.....but im wondering if anyones ever run into this before....

btw setup is ej255 shortblock, rs heads, 18G, hydra....and a bunch of irrelevant stuff

thanks

Yeah, it sucks.

Broken ringland allows the crankcase to be "compressed" which blows oil out the breathers. I know.

hmm only thing is theres not much oil being passed from crankcase breather(normal amount).....just the valve cover breathers.....i have a catch can on my crankcase pcv/valve line....and it's not filling up...i didn't have a catch can on the valve cover breathers...im going to pick up another catch can today on home from work and see how long it takes to fill up...and then do a compression/leakdown tests....

hmmm anyone know the cheapest place for ej257 shortblocks...i remember seeing some for sale for like 1600$ a while ago..now i can only find em for like 1900$...wtf..they probably read my post and jacked up the price..those bastards lol

i hate being at work having to wait to work on my car...

Buy a set of forged pistons for your current block.

that is an option....but i dont know if i can handle the downtime right now....i will also be tempted to upgrade turbo if i have forged pistons....which means i'll need to upgrade tranny....and good lord why do i need more than 300whp for my DD....im trying to leave this car alone and start on a eg33 big turbo GC project....

kind of just want to spend an extra few hundred bucks, drop in a ej257 block and get on to older faster cheaper stuff

but who knows....if i do go forged internals i'll be ordering something along the lines of a gt40 at the same time..lol...

hmmm i just remembered i have my stock ej251 shortblock in my basement cowering in fear in the corner....im thinking i'll throw some decent rods and pistons in that...pick up a set of used RS heads and have some headwork done to those, definetly delta regrinds....and then assemble it while i limp around puffing oil...and drop it in over a weekend....

sounds like a pretty solid plan if u ask me...

~160.....~160....~160...feelin g pretty good....BOOM 90PSI.....

either rings or ringlands be my guess....

but anyway.....as for the cause...well there was no knocking or anything....AFRs were always great.....buttt....

well when i tore apart the block the first time cyl 2 wristpin was seized and wouldn't pop out. ended up having to split the block with that wristpin still in and knock it out after.....i honed that piston down a bit and everything seemed good to go....i guess not as cyl 2 was the 90PSI.....my guess is that wristpin seized up again and the extra friction caused the rings to fail....chalk one up to inexperience and stupidity on my part....

im not really upset is which is the strange thing....even though the engine only lasted about 20K miles i learned so much....and i also learned a valuable lesson(dont re use parts that you're not 100% sure of)....

as for where to go from here....i've thought about rebuilding the block with new internals....maybe going with some forged.....but the more i think about it i'm thinking im just going to drive down to seattle and pick up an ej257 shortblock for 1750$....get me some headwork done, cams....etc...and then get on with my eg33 project
