Default STI to the us in 2003

I read in Aprils car and driver that subaru
is bringing the sti to the states in spring of 2003
to compete with the EVO VII.

Car and drive said the sti will have about 50 more pony's than the wrx this year

yes, we all know about this...but we tend to also have better sources than Car and Driver. Them and R&T seem to like to talk out of their asses a lot

either way, do a search in this forum, and you'll find lots of things pointing towards an STi within 2 years. It'll be a monster, too, yeah...

Rumors be dammed. Sure Weve all heard that the EVO and STI were due to hit stateside, but up untill now its been rather speculative. Personally I wait to see a mention in the big mags like Car&Driver or R/T because that usually means the info comes from the manufacturers themselves or some other reputable source.

eitherway looks like Ill have some comparison shopping to do

Evo will be here next year for sure, at the LA auto show the Evo had a huge sign that said here in "January 2003" the STi is another story. I heard that it has yet been decided and I imagine that they want to sell a few more WRXs before STi hits these shores.

...those magazines don't get their info from the manufacturer. We have more solid info on this board, than the editors of any and all of those magazine's has.

And you know this how?

That IS most definitely a NEW rumor about the 50 more hp, so thanks for posting it. This is still a rumor forum, right JGard18?

I also find that dealerships and individuals talk out of their asses a lot, too. Exclude everybody that talks out their asses and we can get rid of this forum.

Errr they dont?? Gee in the 10+ years Ive been reading C&D, when they mention "factory reps" or an actual person/engineer for some car company is quoted, those are all lies??

I think not. Please also note where I said "or some other reputable source"

C&D and R&T are pretty reliable magazines Ive found. I've also found that most ppl who say otherwise are usually the ones talking out of their ass who also quote magazines like Turbo as if it were the bible.

I have been trying to stay up on the info with my local dealer...who at one point told me that the STi would be selling here stateside in January 2003. However, he recently told me that there were some additional emission setbacks with both the Evo and Sti, bringing the Evo here in about 18 months, and the Sti in 24. Of course this is just a rumor...but that is what this forum is all about.

Has anyone heard if they are planning to bring over the STi wagon?

subaru rep at a motorcycle show last month told me that it would be introduced to the public close to this years end it and would not be here for sale until May/June 03. He also stated that it would have 280 advertised HP, brembo's, 6 speed... and all the goodies. One downfall was that he said unfortunately there would be no sti wagon for the US. Oh yeah he also stated it would be the only sti without the gold wheels. damn american market, i love the gold. anyway you can take this however you'd like but it seems right and the guy kept telling me: "and you didn't hear this from me but..." so we'll see what happens and who's right.

Good, Ill be glad if it comes over w/out the gold wheels. Would mean I wouldnt have to buy Rims right off the bat. The gold wheels are the one Subaru trait I could live without for sure.

Mako,

I can fully relate! I told the folks at the auto shows a few years ago, that if they sold a turbo model here I'd buy it, which I did.. Same holds true for the Sti Wagon at least if it weren't price outrageously!

I must say I agree with Crzykdd

C/D has been a good source of info.
And I think it's safe to say they would know more about new cars coming to the states than anyone of us or some sales guy at a dealership........ see that's what they do for a living....
Plus it would only make sence if the EVO come out next year Subaru would not want to fall behind.

So my prediction is STI for the next model year
like it was said in the April issue of Car/Drive

I seriously doubt they are coming to the states WITHOUT the golds. I mean, all the STi's had gold except the first one.

Mmm, so sexy! Get over it people, it's going to be gold!

I don't realy like the silver to begin with, so I want to get the gold wheels. Although I will say that the stock wheels that we have on our WRXs will make good winter wheels!

I guess my question is, is there really a demand in the USA for a $35,000 Impreza ?

I have a Car and Driver from a couple of years ago. It says that some super VW (I forget the name. ~300 h.p.) would definitely be coming out in a year.

Do any of these magazines actually quote someone at SoA or FHI saying that the STi is definitely coming?
If it has the same h.p. as the JDM version, then I'm a trunk monkey's uncle.

As for car show reps. In 1999, a Subaru rep at the NY Auto Show told me that the WRX would never be available in the U.S. because there was not enough demand for it.

Default WRX STi Stateside

According to several Dealers.. i know they blow alot of smoke up da asses of car owners ...

But more than a few upper managment in Subaru are passing the word that the STi will be comming stateside in OCT 2002...

Im currenty now in the dilema of getting a WRX now or waiting for the STi ... If it comes out in OCT...(hence yhe dilema)

I got the chance to Test Drive a WRX 2002 alone for an Hour the other day, and I have to say that the car sold itself about 30secs after I turned out of the Dealership... The STi with bigger turbo and endless performance upgrades would be well worth the added dinero but if we have to wait 24months.... Ill buy a WRX and pimp it out..

If anyone out there has some confirmed word from anyone.. I'd love to know it..

It ould suck to wait for 6 months just to find out I have to wait 6-12 more !!!
