Default Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec Fitment Questions

I have a 07 sti with RCE Yellow and Ohlins Struts. I m interested in Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec in 245/40/17 to go with my stock rims, but I saw many post saying these tires are much wider than other 245's. Will I have fitment issues? I m still thinking should i pay like $200 more to get a set of RE-01R instead? Thanks.

no you won't have fitment issues. i'm on 255/35/18s with rce yellows with no rubbing on the rolled rear fenders. 05+ have more room in the rear.

Good luck finding the Star specs though.

OP,

a 245/40/17 will work nicely on the stock wheels with your setup.

either RE01R or StarSpec.

05's have more room stock to stock, but a rolled 04 has significantly more room than an 05.

No where. I searched high and low for these. Whenever a tire gets comparable rate to a bench mark tire.. and are way cheaper... one of two things happen
A) They sell out nation wide
B) The price is bumped up very quickly

Good luck tire rack said they were getting some in in couple weeks i just went with RE 01r s can not be happier =)

I'd like to know if there's any truth to this. I'm considering this tire with some 17x9 for my 2005 wrx. Even with a coilover setup I'd still hope that a "fatter" tire wouldn't be an issue for me.

So those of you running 245/40's, what's the "actual" width of your tire? I'm assuming most, if not all should be around the 9inch mark. If the Star Spec is in fact a wider tire, should I drop down to the 234/40? Luke, Tirerack, where ya at on this one? Thanks.

Anyone have any insight on this? I e-mailed Luke, but haven't heard from him. If a standard 245/40 measures ~9" should I think about getting the 235/40 Star Spec? Keep in mind I'll be having a 9" wheel, and I'd like to avoid the "stretched" look. Thanks.

That is my post with the pictures of the tires. All I can tell you is that my 235/45's measure exactly 9.25" wide from sidewall to sidewall using a caliper accurate to 0.001" inches. That converts to exactly 235 mm.

Since the tire curves inwards at the edge, there is about a solid 9.0 inches of meat actually contacting the ground when the car is sitting. This is inflated to 32psi if that matters

if you put a 235 on a 9" wheel it will looked stretched. 9" wheels when you include the bead are really 10"s wide. so you'll want a tire with a section width near 10"s to get a square side wall. anything narrower will have a stretched look.

I haven't mounted a set of 235/40/18 Z1 Star Spec's on a 9" wheel but here's this tire on a 18x8.5 wheel. The sidewall was pretty much vertical on these and the tire offered some curb protection on the 8.5" wide wheel. I'd say on a 9" wheel it would have a very slightttt stretch, not much though.

So would you recommend going with the 235/40 Star Spec, or just going with the 245/40??

Any direct front/rear or side views of those tires on the wheel?

It doesn't look stretched at all in the first pic, but a very very slight stretch on the side view.

Think you made a typo there. A 9" wheel has exactly 9" from bead to bead. I guess you meant the outer lip?

Chris (WC LATHEWERKS) gave the exact width a few posts up...
But for some reference/comparison, my 235 Direzza's are a hair wider than my friends 245 REO1R's...

So, as Chris stated - our 235 Direzza's measure up to exactly 235mm, which must mean that some other tires/brands dont measure up to the size that they should be... Just my $.02
