Default 17 inch tires on 18 inch wheels???

my friend is trying to get new wheels, he wants 18 but he already has 17 inch tires will these fit anyway over the 18's?

You have to have a place with a tire stretcher do it. Otherwise the rim is going to be too small for that specific tread pattern.

Some peoples kids.... Just try mounting one with two screw drivers, and if you get it mounted- you are my hero! lol! (I used to get that question every couple of months when I worked at Les Schwabs- That just makes your day!)

DOn't listen to these naysayers!!! Tell your "friend" to buy them 18's and send em up to the local tire shop with the 17 inch tires.

They should all get a good laugh out of it.

GFB67... sorry about all of the harsh responces... it's just waaaaay impossible, so it's too easy of a target not to go after.
The bead portion of a tire (the part of the tire that holds on to the rims) is actually made of a bundle of steel or synthetic calbes in a hoop, which are then overmolded with rubber... you wouldn't be able to stretch that hoop to the size needed to fit an 18" wheel.
tell him to sell the 17s on craigs list and put it towards a set of 18s.

You would probably be able to fit 20" tires though. You would however have to put them over the old 18" low profile tires so they wouldn't be loose.

Nice analogy... if he knows anything about shoe sizes :P

Even if he manages to forcefully fit the 17" tires onto 18" wheels, I would not want to sit in (or even drive near) that car. That combo is just asking for trouble. Pushing the design specification is just asking for a disaster to happen.
