Default Q's about GD Struts on a GC, Specifically Tokico D-Specs

What's the difference between bugeye struts and '93-'01 struts? Everyone babbles about valving and ride height differences, but those seem fairly dependent on spring rate and selection to me...why would a strut affect ride height assuming you use the appropriate spring and top hat? Are the bolt holes/hub flanges different between GD and GC models?

I'm looking to get a Ground Control or Swift Coilover sleeve kit to use on a set of '02-'03 Tokico D-Spec adjustable struts. Are the struts built differently from the GC-chassis subaru struts that they won't fit, or affect camber? I won't be using the springs perches, so that's inconsequential...

If you HAVE D-Spec struts, can you please take some measurements/comparisons for me? I'm specifically interested in the diameter of the strut body and the diameter of the little collar above the spring perch.

I can do you one better. Pop that little galvanized collar at the top of the body off and the GC sleeves fit right on. Ten80 has already done this.

Anyone have an answer to InsatiableAmos's comment above? I was kinda wondering the same for my future plans regarding putting GDB suspension on my GC8.

It's already been answered. Yes, you can fit Ground Control sleeves onto Tokico D-specs. That's all he wanted to know that isn't over-documented already.

What's the difference between bugeye struts and '93-'01 struts? Can I fit WRX suited DMS coilovers on a GC8??

1) angular phase of the strut mount bolts

2) (unconfirmed) amount of camber "built in" to the clevis

Also, the length of the strut "tabs" on the bottom of the struts differ by a few mms...

It's enough to increase bump steer when installing GD-specific struts on a GC-track-width car, and it's only made worse by the lower-offset wheels most of us are using so we can run bigger tires.

i have 02-03 kyb gr2 struts, 05 tanabe gf210 spring, 05 tophats, and the tic spacer. all on my 98 outback sport.

the gd struts give you more a drop, which increases bumpsteer, and also the gd struts give you a little less negative camber. but they do fit.

only other issue is how the brake line is held to the strut, but that can be modified to work fairly easy.

Me too.

93 through 07 all used the same strut design, short the STI and wagons. The only thing that varied on the struts was minor changes to valving and the changes in the brake line and ABS attachments on the strut.

A D-Spec strut will fit on any Subaru from 93 to 07. The D-Spec strut will use the stock front tophat of any of these cars and will use the pre 04 rear tophat or any 04 plus tophat as long as you use Scoobie921's spacer or a stack of washers to take out the gap.

The Ground Control kit will come with the upper perches needed for whatever setup you intend to run. Pop off the little collars on the strut like williaty said, and the threaded collars will slide right on. The provided rubber band/o-ring things are worthless to attempt to use. All you do is chop up a pop can, roll it up, and stick it between the strut body and threaded collar to take out the gap.

You don't have to cut off the lower spring perches on the strut if you don't want to. They don't really get in the way other then limiting the adjuster a little bit on the bottom end.

Uh, that's it.
