Default Will a Kartboy SS fit in a '95 L ? (pics, 56k)

Hey all I bought a '95 L and I'm going to swap the trans into my '96 GT.

Anyway I've been reading about the kartboy short shifters and how there might be some issues with them fitting older transmissions.

Here's pics of the stock shifting assembly:

I measured the opening the shifter would fit into there, the "barrel" I guess it's called. It's 1" or 2.54cm (25.4mm), does anybody know the dimensions of the one that's for the "97-99" legacies?

While I don't know anything about kartboy short shifters not working with older manual transmissions, I feel the need to state the obvious here:

The '95 L 2.2 Liter motor with the 5-speed typically has a 3.90:1 Final Drive ratio, whilst the '96-'97 2.5 Liter motors typically run with either a 4.44:1 or 4.10:1 final drive.

On AWD Subarus this final drive ratio is in both the rear differential and in the FRONT differential/transaxle assembly (that is part of the "transmission"). If you swap the Transmission/transaxle from the older vehicle, you should also swap the rear differential, as running with different final drive ratios can cause all sorts of unpleasent problems.

Yeah, I have the whole car, I'm going to swap that trans and diffs too so everything matches up.

Sorry, I thought that was implied

What about converting the shift linkage to a newer one that'll fit the kartboy. The linkage in it now is a cable style and the '97+ uses a hydraulic style.

What are my options for shift linkage swaps?

Well it appears the '02 WRX linkage is what works, so I've got one of those on the way
